Has anyone noticed, or is it just me,......... MCX keeps offering an update even though I just did the update. Bob

Hi Bob,

A few weeks ago there was a bug with faulty warnings, but that has been fixed now. However at 1:00 in the night my time the new version is build if I have made changes the previous day. So maybe you just checked before and after that time?

That might be the case. Who knows! I thought I was having bgl problems again! Hahahaha! I did get that fixed - I posted the notice. Bob

2 AM in Ione, Washington on Wed. the 8th. Still getting update notice. Wonder if I am stuck in a loop. :) Bob

Hi,

I just installed the latest release here to test, but I do not get a notification about a never version being available. So I don't think it is a bug. Are you sure you overwrote all files when installing the update?

Interesting- yes- As always I open instead of save.... run the file, choose MCX - choose yes to all and ok. Everything is overwritten.

Might still be soomething going on with my machine. Will look into it. Bob

Hi Bob,

That sounds ok. The update check does compare the date of the main DLL file with the date as given by the server. That way it checks if there is a newer version. So therefore I was wondering if you had an old DLL still laying around.

Not sure- but when I open and install I am asked if I want to repolace .....etc. I notice it is the same date of download as i have already. 9-25-2013. Maybe that's a clue?

maybe I should uninstall - get a version you suggest as if a fresh install then check for update again? If so I would like to know how to uninstall. If merely by control panel- good. Bob

Hi Bob,

The date you mention sounds in the future, the last version should have a date of yesterday on most of the DLL files.

Uninstall is just delete the folder, that's all. Since there is no installer, the control panel is not involved at all.

Just uninstalled everything. Roby directed me to your scenerydesign.org dl'ed the latest installed. seems to work right now. Maybe we fixed it. will let you know. Bob

OK- what roby and I did was to just dump everything, got to scenery.org and download latest version and install.

As always I install on desktop (for years, no problem).

All was fine. Then I got another update. I installed that one as I always do.

Opened MCX and instantly got another update. i.e. same problem again.

Screenshot shows most of if not all the dlls. I don't know which one to look for.

When I got my machine back from the shop I see a number of files left on it. Don't know whether to delete them or not. Need to call. but then these don't have anything to do with MCX. They are totally ion another unrelated folder.

When I install I do as I have always done. I open with winzip, point to MCX, I am asked to overwrite- yes to all. .... and it's done. Never a problem til now.

So it'sw not the MCX download fault- but something here on my side. Just wondering if you or anyone has seen this before. Bob

Hi,

Your update procedure sounds fine, I also do it like that on machines other than my development machine.

What I see in your screenshot is that all DLL files that start with astofra are from the 8th of May. That would mean it is not the latest release, since it is the 10th today and I know last night a version was made.

Could it be that the download failed? Maybe your browser had an older version cached or so?

I would guess this means my browser is somehow looking at the same update as before. No idea how to fix this if this is so. I'll keep looking. Bob

I had the same problem. I was watching this thread for a couple days, and today it stopped( my constant updating bubble ). I downloaded the latest version from Development Releases today. But this time I deleted everything old, rather than copying and overwriting, and stuck the new in the place where the old was.

That seemed to fix it - today. Try that, maybe?

Sven- thanx. I just noticed today something rather interesting. did something similar to what you did with some variations.

I usually open the update instead of saving. This works as well until lately. i this time saved.... same problem. so whether I open or save initially it didn't matter. But I always do this-

With winzip i ope the zip file, click on unzip in the middle of the top menu. I then get a short menu of recent folders I unzipped to. One of these is the folder which contains MCX. click, bingo, done.

Lately, however, I've had this on going problem. THIS TIME.....

I did all the same BUT I clicked unzip and manually navigated to MCX folder then unzipped the archive.

Holy Cow! It worked. So something in the Winzip program says 'Hey, dude, this is where MCX lives... unzip to here.' Well- I guess it hasn't been doing that lately.

If I ignore that and just manually navigate to MCX it seems to work. Now... don't dat beat all ta hell! hahaha!

I had some recent computer spyware problems fixed by my local store. They did a wonderful job, but maybe some things got tweaked accidentally here and there! Who knows.

Anyway... I am now ready to go back and get into more trouble around here. Thanx for the reply, all. Bob

JYD,

You still having this issue? I am ...

Sorry, I am not trying to hijack this thread, but don't feel it is necessary to start a new one, about the same problem.

Is there a particular way to update to keep this from happening? Currently I am/do:
  • Created a folder on my D: drive
  • Delete ALL files in said folder
  • Extract the new files from the update package
  • Move the new files to the old folder
Is there something I should do differently? Or is this a bug in the update code? I can see the Date Modified has changed on some of the DLL files, to a newer date( i.e. 5/12/2013 to 5/14/2013 ), but the notification seems to keep appearing.

Thanks

Sven- You certainly are NOT hijacking this thread. We're all family here.

What you are doing seems ok. Here is what I finally found on my system. --

I have MCX in a desktop folder called Flightsim Design Tools. This is where I keep most of my tools- smaller ones, size-wise, so I don't have icons all over my desktop. It also contains many shortcuts.

So you can see the path is c:\desktop\Flightsim Design Tools.

I recently had my machine worked on. After I got it back I started noticing this constant update. (Once in a great while this happens but it is quickly corrected)

After talking with Ano here I got it working right again. But then I noticed something. ............. When you open the zip and ready to install I get a list of previous install sites. one of these points to where I last installed MCX, which makes it a bit easier to install.

At this point I noticed TWO places for MCX!!!!! One was where I usually install MCX, the other was exactly the same EXCEPT this other MCX WAS IN 'Documents'!!!!

So- I went there and found an entire copy of MCX!!!! Whee did this come from? The only thing I can figure out is somehow the computer repair store might have copied it to documents so I now had TWO copies of MCX.

Back in Winzip I had inadvertantly chosen the wrong location when I was installing updates. I just wasn't paying close attention when updating.

Now when updating I watch closely to install in the right place. I need to get into Winzip to see how I can erase the other 'site'. (Winzip 'thinks' the other copy still exists)

Anyway that's what I found on my machine. Hope yours turns out to be as simple. Bob

You gave me the idea to go 'hunting' ...

I found nothing in my Documents Folder- I think you are probably correct about the repair shop moving the folder there - however, there are several folders located here: "C:\Users\<MY_NAME>\AppData\Local\SceneryDesign.org\ModelConverterX.exe_Url_<DIFFERENT_NUMBERS_HERE>"

I have 5 of them. If I can recall correctly, I believe I have updated 5 times, to newer versions. I believe this may be the culprit ... I will report back ...

Thanks for the reply! ;)

Hi,

Those folders contain the settings, each name is for a different folder that ModelConverterX was run from. .NET automatically does that.

The easiest way to get rid of the update notification is to change the settings and disable the option to check for updates at startup :).

But on the other hand I would like to solve this issue as well. Let me check if it might be related to your Windows settings, the US you have a different date format of course (the day and month are the wrong way around :)). Let me check if that might cause this issue.
