• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Coordinates

Hi guys,
I've big problem placing aerial photo over my Caen Carpiquet scenery. Usually I use PSM or TerraBuilder, this time I've tried both but I cannot work out. Basically I load the main bitmap then I use point-2-point calibration tools. I get coordinates with FsTcalc2004; when I finish the calibration PSM tolds me that coordinates are incorrect, TB freeze up. I dunno why, maybe due Caen's position? These are:

N49* 10' 24.00"
W0* 27' 00.00"

I guess is some bugs on those programs. Usually I place ortophoto around airport with Gmax using flatten polygons but this time the airport is 78m elevation and my texture should adapt to terrain. If someone know how to do this in Gmax, I'm here...desperate

Hi,

I don't use those two tools myself, but you might want to try slightly different coordinates to see if they are the fault or that your image or way or order of doing it causes the problems.

Hi Arno,
sincerly I've tried lots of coordinates, I dunno maybe because in Caen pass the Greenwich Meridian? I don't know how these programs handle coordinates. I've tried to calibrate from corner to corner of a possible square very big, about 13km per side. Isn't there a way to, in Gmax, create a "adaptable" surface to the terrain?

Hi,

No, it is very hard to make something in GMax that matches the mesh terrain exactly (else the mesh would come through of course). It is not an option I would advice, although it is in theory possible to create something.
