• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Have repainted more than 50 WOP B17G's to be used as AI for Ridgewell Station R167 project.

Do I need permission from Shockwave to upload these repaints with the airport scenery?

The kicker is that all these aircraft textures are reduced to a minimum except nose art and no VC cockpits are included in order to keep framerate hit down.

Hi,

Can you provide a little more information about the aircraft? I mean is it payware, freeware, etc?

Uploading only the new liveries should not be a problem I think. But in general it is not allow to redistribute the other files belonging to the aircraft (like AIR files, MDL files, etc) without permission from the author.

More info

The aircraft would be offered as freeware only, and are intended for use as AI. No panels would be included.

The livery textures could be uploaded without any of the model files associated with the Wings of Power model. However, since there are so many, more than 50, installation would be sort of tedious, but not impossible.

I have all the files in separate folders named after their squadron numbers, about 13 aircraft each. I think FS9 limits the number of aircraft that can be in a single aircraft container.

:scratchch I could provide the basic folder structures with instuctions for installing the missing files. Am I correct to think that the model file must not be uploaded as this is the same as distributing the original WOP model without paying for it?

There is also concern about reducing the size of the textures to minimize framerate hit. Not sure if this is permitted. Simular to a repaint but manipulated.

I am willing to do whatever I need to do to offer these repaints as AI. They will be an important part of the 'atmosphere' I want to provide with the 8th Army Air Force 381st Bomber Group(H), Station R167, Ridgewell, England, that I have created.

Any suggestions about how to do this properly will be appreciated. Just cleaning up these details before I upload the project, all as freeware.

There is a limit on the number of variations for an aircraft in FS9, but it is over 200, so that should not be a problem.

The biggest problem is that the WOP model is not an AI aircraft and the frame rate hit would be substantial if a large number of these aircraft are within the same airfield area.

You are correct about the mdl file, uploading that would constitute a breach of copyright.

The B17G WOP model has 46593 polygons and no LODs, an AI aircraft would be expected to have certainly less than 10,000 polygons and several LOD models to reduce the FPS hit at distance.
