• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Correct livery with AI traffic (real-time online ) with a320neo

Hi guys. i made a discovery just a minute ago. So if you find a320neo flight in the sim (real-time online), it uses 320neo liverys from the community folder and it is 100% right. Look this pic with TAP 320neo flight coming to Orly: https://i.ibb.co/M7xFCp9/20210218151500-1.jpg

Problem is, that there isnt so many a320neo´s in the sky worldwide: https://flightaware.com/live/aircrafttype/A20N

There is also problem with flightaware, it doesent identify all the 320neo´s and some of them is normal a320 on the site.

I did try to config fs10.AircraftTypes.csv, i delete all the aicrafts except a320neo. But there is only generic blue a320neo liviries around.

So what to do? Can we somehow inject flightawares data to think, that all the traffic worldwide is made by 320neo aircrafts. That way there would be 100% correct liverys all around the world, but only a320neo aircrafts. Or is there way to inject more aircrafts to AI traffic and make AI friendly liviries for them? Or is it only Asobos models that is AI traffic combatible?

Hey, it's possible to set up more models, even legacy ones. I tested that using a Dash 8 Q400 and the legacy 737-800 in some freighter paint scheme:

The progress to enable a plane is pretty straight forward, all information about airline and aircraft have to be in aircraft.cfg. For example the Dash 8 has the following relevant entries in the FLTSIM XX section I want to see as ai traffic:

atc_airline = Horizon Air ; airline name
icao_airline = "QXE" ; ICAO code of the airline if the variation is a livery for a real airline
atc_parking_types = GATE,RAMP ; "ANY" / "RAMP" / "CARGO" / "MIL_CARGO" / "MIL_COMBAT" / "GATE" / "DOCK"
atc_parking_codes = ASAX,QXE ; Comma separated and may be as small as one character each
isairtraffic = 1 ; airtraffic flag for variations

Also you need to provide additional icao information in the [GENERAL] section of the plane so it will be set as the proper replacement for the one flying around irl:

icao_type_designator = "DH8D" ;
icao_manufacturer = "DE HAVILLAND CANADA" ;
icao_model = "Dash 8-400" ;
icao_engine_type = "Turboprop/Turboshaft" ;
icao_engine_count = 2 ;
icao_wtc = "L" ;

You can get the needed information directly from ICAO: https://www.icao.int/publications/doc8643/pages/search.aspx

If everything went right you gonna see the plane fly around. Still there is some limitation/bug around: it seems like you can only use 3 liveries per plane for ai properly - if you define more the paints will be randomized somehow.

Good luck!

After several weeks of tests and various attempts to try to understand how AI traffic works in FS2020 I managed to get some good results.
Here are some pictures taken from different airports

This looks amazing. Cant wait for someone to fully crack this and give us something similar to Ultimate traffic.

Grigna, do you mind sharing how you got the above results?

I'd gladly do it, but it's not that simple.
This is the result of at least two months of observation and modifications to the configurations with tests and counter-tests that unfortunately require the simulator to be restarted every time with the waiting time that we all know.
What I can say is that the engine that handles live AI traffic works quite well although many users claim otherwise.
Surely, another thing to say is that the ways to make it work correctly are not adequately documented such as the aircraft.cfg file which still today is not known what values are actually used and it is not even clear if these values should be expressed with quotes or without. Even today in the SDK there are examples of aircraft.cfg with values expressed in quotation marks, others without. (I am referring to strings)
Another thing to say is that there are essentially three types of traffic:
1) Aircraft parked
2) Offline AI traffic
3) Online AI traffic
These are three different things that ultimately affect each other
I focused on AI Online traffic because that's what interests me.
There are many things to do but above all there are many things not to do such as filling the Community with AI models found around and thrown in there without any control over the configuration files, on the BMP textures instead of DDS, on the old MDL or AIR files.
The topics are many and I could write almost a book. ;)

Quotes are necessary if there's multiple words/numbers in the string, like if you want a plane to use multiple types of parking. But if it's just a single word/number you don't really need quotes.

Live traffic uses the AI system, so things that work with that will also effect Live Traffic. But the most important things are the ICAO lines.
