• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Corrupted .TSD File?

First I want to thank you for such a great program! The idea of a similar process to sculpt terrain was something I have had for a while now, so I was ecstatic to see this program when I did.

It has been working great so far. However, I think I've run into an issue. I was making huge progress on an airport, only for the program to refuse to triangulate. Every time I get the following messages:

The funny thing is that I deleted that flatten, yet I get the same message. It was imported from SBX (which it worked wonderfully for the first few compiles), but as I got more detailed with the sculpt nodes to fix some rogue triangle-flattens, I began to get this message. I have since re-drawn the flatten in SBX, and reimported, only to get the same message. This time, though, it still has the previously named flatten as the culprit, although it was deleted two days ago.

Thanks for any help!

I tried uploading the .TSD file along with the blend profile, but they are not supported file types. I can email them if need be for further testing.

Please e-mail me your .tsd file (don at stuff4fs dot com). Or, if you "zip it up" you can attach it to a post. I haven't done much testing for deleting flattens, so it's probably as you suspect.

Didn't think about that, here you go!

Also, I should note that I had the issue before removing the flatten. I thought that removing the flatten would solve the issue, since that's what the dialog was about.

I've had a quick look at the files and can replicate the error. I'll get back to you ASAP.

The problem appears to be either that the flatten you deleted was not fully removed from the data or that the "stub" was left intentionally but is causing subsequent problems. Attached is a new beta version that works around the problem (in the manner I probably should have used in the first place) that allows triangulation to proceed.

I'll "get to the bottom" of the issue ASAP.

Thanks for the help, it now properly triangulates! However, I have now run into another issue when compiling the data I provided above:

I have looked around for anything that looked out of the ordinary, but I can see triangles between every set of sculpt nodes.

I have just uploaded beta version 0.0.19 to http://stuff4fs.com. It "cleans-up" any previously-deleted data on loading (when necessary) and (I hope) now handles deleted polys properly.

As for the most recent error you reported, it may have been due to the "unclean" data. I have loaded your data, triangulated and compiled for FSX/P3D all without difficulty.

If you still experience that error, please send me back the .tsd and .tsp files involved.

Sorry, but I'm still getting the issue above. Attached are the files. As a side note, the values should be in the ~430m/1410ft elevation range.

The fix I gave you yesterday was a workaround and the data saved by it conflicted with the final resolution. Beta release 0.1.20, now available at http://stuff4fs.com, eliminates the conflict.

Hi Don, (I'm back!)

I think this same issue might occur with Blend Polys. I messed up when I was drawing the Blend poly and ended up just deleting the poly. Now, TS is refusing to let me start a new Blend Poly. My first thought was this. The .TSD file in question can be found here.

Thank you for your help.

Did you save the modified data? If not, then just re-open the existing data. If you did save the data after deleting the blend poly, then I'm surprised you can't start a new one - but I'll check.

In any case, if it won't let you start a new one than TS "thinks" one already exists. Unfortunately, you can't add new vertices to it without first selecting it - which you can't do because there are no vertices left. I expect to be releasing a new version in the next day or so. I'll make sure this is fixed.
