• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Create custom taxiways

Hi guys!
What is the best way to use Sketchup to create custom taxiways for FSX.
I already created the textures, etc, but how can I create taxiways using that tool?
I am not that confortable with Gmax and I was wondering if it's possible to do it in sketchup.
Any good tutorial around?
Thanks a lot,

Teo

You do not use Sketchup to make ground polys. You could but you would end up having a lot of problems unless you know how to import dae files in MCX and then use the MCX wizard to convert into ground polys.
I use ADE and its groundpoly add-in by Don Grovestine. Much simplier.
The ADE tutorial is indeed around:).

Hello !

You will still need to use 3ds max to convert your models, I suggest to you to start learning 3ds max from today, it's not so difficult as it might look :).

You don't need Max to convert SketchUp models. You can export the SketchUp model to COLLADA or KMZ - ModelConverterX can read them both. If you export to KMZ and the model is geolocated in SketchUp, then its coordinates are kept.

Hi Roby,

Thanks for the tip.
Where can I download the groundpoly add in for ADE?
Thanks much!

Hi I have just created ground poly using sketchup. I is my first time to do this. Most of the time I use sketchup to create 3d buildings then using ModelconverterX to convert for gmax to put textures. Afterwards to FS.

I might plan doing it with the ground poly. I just finished creating the runway, taxiway, apron, taxi lines and apron markings. Here is what I have finished in Sketchup:
