• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

creating variables for storage

I currently use a couple different methods for getting data into flight sim. One way is to just use the flight sim variables that are settable and then retrieve the value in xml or cgauge. I also use the cabincomfort example to get data into the xml variables.

Does flight sim allow new variables to be created? It'd be really cool if we could just create a structure in flight sim that could be written and read.

Surely the only FSX knows about are those it creates itself, so I'm not sure what new variables you are hoping FSX will create?

Obviously yor could create your own structure in, say a Simconnect application, but FSX wouldn't know about them.

Guess I missed the OP point.

I also use the cabincomfort example to get data into the xml variables

So maybe the LOCALVARS would help. Add in a hidden gauge that stores the new Variables you need.

I still don't think that allows flight sim to create new variables. Users can obviously create their own variables, but they are not flight simulator variables - the only flight simulator varables are surely those listed in the SDK.

After reading my question I see that it's very unclear.

I was just wondering the most efficient way of transferring my own data into an xml or cgauge. I currently using C: variables for xml. That allows me to create new variables and retrieve them in xml gauges. I was just wondering if there were other methods. It's a little annoying because it appears that it must be a dll. I was wondering if maybe there was a way to do something similar with simconnect.

I'll take a look at the LOCALVARS. Looks like an interesting tool.

Thanks!!!
Bobby

Simconnect still is a .dll (or an .exe, but then there is whole another set of issues, quite possibly), for you to make a .dll gauge as per cabin comfort example seems the best solution.

Look at the client data area functions in SimConnect. You can create any type of structure you wish. C gauges can read and write to these areas using SimConnect.
