• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Crosswind question

Apply the format of +7.9d starting from 3 to 14 skipping over 8. Make sure the runway before and after 8 are within 7.9 degrees so 8 is in the mix.

The other fromat does not always work because you are only Xwinding 3 to 8 or 8 to 14 and not all 3 runways together.

When finished placing the Xwinds you will need to drag the runways around some.

Since 03/21 is the longest runway, one option is to drag the runways so it looks like the following in the list.

08/26
xwinds
14/32
03/21

The last runway listed is always the wind deciding runway for all the base ends. Another option would be to use 08/26 as the last runway so when winds are from the east then 03 and 14 are also active. Example

03/21
xwinds
14/32
08/26

Once the 7.9 degree (or less) math is finished adding all runways it does not matter the order they are in. FS sees them all as parallel when you have 7.9 added between 03 up to 14. We do not want to automate placing the runway list so the user has the option on which runway they list last.

In some cases we reverse the base /recip of all runways if no primary type runway exist with a single ILS which takes precedence in the weight selection of runway usage. By reversing the base /recipt in some cases

21/03
26/08
32/14

the amount of xwind runways used (based on 7.9 degree from 21 to 32) can be decreased in some situations. Going oneway can be less then going the other way. If you ever reverse the runways then run the fault finder so ADE will replace the start locations and swap those also. There are other reasons you might want to reverse the base /recip so the actual default vs desired runway will be used. Base end has a higher weight value then a recip end and is awarded more points in the selection process.

If you want to close a runway end completely such as the RWY 32 then it is mandatory to reverse the base /recip and make 32 the base. This follows the rules FS uses (not in the SDK) such as RWY 23/05 at EGLL.
