• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Crosswind vs yaw moment

Hello everyone,

I am struggling with some weird issues. It happens from FSx to p3d v5.
It seems that crosswind has unpredictable effect on the yaw rotation of the aircraft. Sometimes, with 50kts x-wind, no rudder is required until 120kts or more. Sometimes with the same settings it is impossible to keep runway centerline.

What are the yaw moment derivatives I need to work on here? Anything in particular with ground handling/x-wind?

It seems P3D V4.5 (not sure about other versions) has some internal maximum surface wind limit at 31kts. Above that, wind "overflows" and goes back to a small value until liftoff.
Very weird???

Suppose you are on an approach at 120 kts and there is a 30 kt crosswind. You will have about 15 degrees of drift, which needs to be kicked off just before touchdown. This is not easy and if you fail to kick it off you will most likely ground loop or break something. For this reason there are few airplanes that are cleared to land or take off with more than 30 knots crosswind component.
In P3DV4 you can set the wind at the surface through World/Weather/user defined/customize wind speed with choices of:
None, Light 8 kts, Moderate 16 kts, Heavy 24 kts and Severe 36 Kts. You can the set the wind direction to give you the crosswind effect you want.
