• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Custom aerial image not showing up in the Sim

Hi there,
I am modeling and improving an airport in the Scenery editor (EDLI). Unfortunately the aerial image of the airport has been taken turing a really hot summer and all the grass on the ground got burned.
Therefore all of the grass is yellow and ugly. I tought, why not update the aerial image for the area and dug a bit into the topic of CGL files. Yesterday I tried out a tutorial on YouTube by "Flying Theston".
But my aerial image does not show up after following all of his steps. I have also read the entire article about CGLs on the Wiki. Still nothing is working. Implementing the CGL into my main project also did not help.
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?
The aerial images I got are from our local cadastral office and are free to use under CC-BY 4.0.
Here is a link to my project folder: https://mega.nz/file/vnoVlQZL#UapAMEYDJN5UitsCJQEQ44acoCJ5H859W-GrTp4cSgc
Thanks!

I'm not sure how things went wrong, but I do know what went wrong. Your tiles are in the wrong location. Here's and example tilename you have in your package sources: 3020213202210212311.png

As you can see, that quadkey would be located between the southern tip of Africa and Antarctica. Not having the original sources, I couldn't correct the problem. Thequadkey should be something like 120203102003210202.png

Thanks a lot! It really helped me.
I started all over again with the aerial image this time it actually worked!
I think QGIS was the problem. There were some settings that broke a few things. After uninstalling it and installing a newer version, it finally worked.
The new aerial images look great.
There is only one smal catch: Where there is grass in some areas of the aerial image, the Sim detects it as dirt.
Is there a way to change it from dirt to grass?

You could try an apron or poly over the area with a grass material. Play with the transparency and colorization of the material. The sim interprets green as grass. Maybe someone else can chime in and give a better option? Or you could alter the color of the source before you split it into tiles?
