• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Custom Global Environment Maps

.... just to demonstrate to you, a custom development of the Global Environment map, for those who are not aware, this is the texture that FSX use's in combination with the ' Runway Bump ' texture, when wet
weather is selected.

Unfortunately, FSX is only coded to utilise one Global Environment map, for all of the FSX Global Terrain environments, so on many occasions it might well be, that the wet weather surface reflections do not accurately match the reflection of the surrounding terrain.

This particular Global Environment map, does not use a mountainous back drop for the reflection as in the default FSX texture, but tree's and clouds are reflected onto the wet surface's instead.

PS,

Please register your interest by PM, if you would like to beta test one of the Global Environment maps under development.

Yes the stock global environment map is crappie, that's why I made my own cube map even though it doesn't fit the bill in every location.

..... I am now offering a Global Environment Map ( Texture ) to the wider development community.

As mentioned above, it is not possible to have a ' one version ' fits all Global Environment Map, because all Scenery locations are bound to feature very different surrounding terrain.
You can see from the Screenshots, being offered is a Global Environment Map, which feature's ' Trees ' rather than the default Global Environment Map having a mixture of ' Mountains and Trees '.
The Global Environment Map is ideally suited for European area's and other area's of the World that would be classed as similar.

The Global Environment Map being offered, can be used as a direct replacement to the original FSX / P3D Global Environment Map. When used with my custom Runway Bump texture ( provides custom Wet Surface effect ), also
being offered at this time, it looks just superb. ( Remember to back-up your Original Texture's before replacement !! )

You can also use the Global Environment Map and Runway Bump texture in your own Custom Scenery, but please follow the guidelines below for doing so.

Conditions of the usage of my Textures in your own project are as follows -

The Textures are strictly offered as Freeware. I forbid either the Global Environment Map or Runway Bump Texture to be used in any payware or donationware Scenery Project.

Out of courtesy to me, please credit me accordingly, when you have used the Global Environment Map or Runway Bump Texture within your Freeware Scenery Project.
