• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Custom Ground Polygon Wet Surface / Rain Effect.

.....the concrete surface on the left of this screenshot, doe's not have the ' wet surface ' effect
applied to it. This was intentional to allow for comparison.

...hopefully, you will be able to notice the newly designed custom Runway_bump texture. It is much more subtle than the default FSX texture for this purpose.
Very difficult to demonstrate at this resolution, but you should just be able to detect the little ' circular ' rain drop splashes, making for a much more realistic effect.

Texture size is 512 x 512 pixels and can be used in a non Custom Ground Polygon environment too. ( ie .To replace the default FSX texture. ). The custom texture has no impact on performance.

V nice, but won't you notice the rain 'circular bumps' when it's not raining?

...the Custom texture behaves in exactly the same way as the FSX default texture.

I found what I wanted to know.
I was not aware of that technique. Thanks for the hint. :)
 
....after extensive reworking over the weekend, I have managed to achieve substantial improvements to the Custom Runway_bump Texture, ( the Wet / Surface texture )

This texture will work superbly on either Custom Ground Polygon surface's or Default FSX surfaces.
The Texture size has also been reduced, without any loss of detail.

....Still has the subtle ' Circular ' rain drop splash effects embedded.

.....but now looks superb when seen from above, no texture repeating evident at all.

....also now with beautiful bloom effects and the subtle illusion of rain hitting the hard surfaces. This one I think ticks all the boxes !!

Will P3D V.3 have real time reflections ?
Yeah, they said they added it but I can't see it.
I've checked the SDK and apart from the change log it doesn't mention it. In fact it still has the old blurb " It is certainly possible to generate real-time updating cubic maps, but this would require processor cycles and a constantly updating texture buffer; both of which would have detrimental effects on performance"

I haven't found a switch in the new SDK material, or in the sim options.
