• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA CVXExtractor Help PLease

Thanks JR, I tried that line but still with no result.

I checked and my version of .NET Framework is 4.5.2 (not sure why this is important but it is mentioned earlier in the post)

I seem to be in the same predicament as familton (the topic starter), has he resolved the issue at his end?

My end goal is to get an accurate layout of the shorelines so I can put together some photoreal water and shoreline textures together, I'm not sure if this tool is the best way of achieving this but I think it has the potential of making it easier. My cheat technique has been to take a screenshot of the file in tmviewer! (obviously I'm a novice with scenery design but I'm trying to learn the techniques)

I confess to making a blend mask from a screenshot in tmfviewer at one time! It actually worked really slick so whatever works! :)

Well I dunno, I just checked and I have .NET Framework 4.5.1 installed according to programs & features. You're doing this outside of Program Files (x86) right, so it's not a UAC write permissions issue? If all else fails post up your .bgl and I'll see if I can KML it.

I posted a reply earlier but I can't find it now. Patrick helped me. He had me create a file called test.txt. Next he had me rename it to test.cmd. Then I edited the test.cmd by adding:

cvxextractor -i "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Scenery\0302\scenery\cvx2622.bgl" -t KML -o C:\Users\Bob\Documents\Test -f Shorelines

and saving it which is for my system. My User name is Bob and I have FSX in the default location but I have the FSX folder security set so I can read and write to it. It writes the cvx2622.kml to My Documents\Test. It works fine.

It is a lot easier to write and edit the file this way rather than having to type it in the CMD line. I just hit ENTER on the test.cmd file and it creates the file.

I just save the test.cmd file and overwrite the folder and bgl filename for my next bgl file. I created a shortcut to open the folder with the flies. Bob.

Where is your cvxextractor.exe? Is it in a folder on your desktop called cvxextractor? Is your cvx2815.bgl in the C:\cvxexrractor folder? Bob.

Update: I just plugged the 0301\cvx2815.bgl into my command file above and it made the cvx2815.kml in a few seconds. It is about 3Mb. If you want it PM me with your e-mail and I'll send it to you. If you have Skype we could chat and share screens too. Bob.

P.S I only extracted the shorelines.

I deleted my last post Bob as I think I got it to work, I had to run off to rl work however so I couldn't explain myself (I'm on a train using my tablet right now)

No, my cvxextractor was not on my desktop, I don't know why it thought it was....maybe because that's where my test.cmd file was located? Anyway I moved the extractor to my desktop and tried it again and I think it worked (I had to edit the txt file as the syntax was incorrect - forgot the -t). It produced a file but I will have to confirm when I get back home later, I'll be pretty stoked if it has!

I hope it works for you. Do you have WIN7? What is the path for your FSX? Let us know if it worked. Bob.

I got it to work!
I do have win7 and my path is C:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X
Thanks again JR and Bob :D
