• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Don't mean to nitpick, but "Altitude Alert" on your Aural Warning panel is misspelled in this shot...I'm fairly certain you've noticed and corrected this by now, but I just thought I would point it out in case you hadn't. ;-]

The artwork is great! I'm curious as to texture size and how many parts are mapped to each texture in order to obtain resolution like that.

Oh, you are right!
I haven't noticed that by now, but I will correct that immediately...
Thank you!

I am creating the textures now all with a resolution of 4096x4096 px, but then we will look where we can reduce the resolution without big loss of quality.

Okay, so 4096. The other part is how many parts are using that texture. I only ask as I have spent an enormous amount of time on my project trying to balance texture quality with performance in-sim. I am always looking to learn something new.

All in all, the complete overhead texture is using one file, the pedestal (except the Throttle) is one file, die Glareshield is one file.
But as already said, the textures will be downsized later for better performance.

(Maybe we are creating two versions, one with downsized textures and one with the 4096-textures, but we still have to decide about that)

Personally I would keep the textures in their native 4K size, especially when it comes to things that need to be easily read. Maybe run some A/B comparisons to see if texture size even makes a noticeable difference, because in my experience it really doesn't unless your GPU memory is filling up with other textures. If you do decide to downsize them, be sure to keep a copy in the original size because once you shrink the maps, any details fine enough to justify 4096*4096 pixels will be lost forever.

Don't worry, we are trying to keep the texture resolution as high as possible, especially the panel textures will have a very high resolution ;)

Hint: DXT1 compression works well for textures that don't require much of an alpha channel. A 4096 px texture will have a filesize of 8 MB without mip maps.

Moken, you are great. I have been searching for a Dash-8 100 or 200 for FSX and all I could find were models that were created for FS2004 that have the propeller glitch which cannot be fixed. I look forward to your Dash 8 with properly functioning propellers! Great work! If you need any extra help with the flight dynamics just let me know. I am not a Dash-8 pilot but I have flown a bit and have been using MSFS since FS4.

Hi there!

Any news? Looking great already!
Sergio.
:D
Hi Antaris!

There has not been much activity on the project lately, the project is not dead. We have only had a long summer break, but we are coming back stronger now when autumn is coming back. ;)

Indeed. There was no big progress, just a few very little things have been made.
We are really looking forward to autumn...

Here in the UK it feels like it has been autumn since the middle of July!! the weather has been terrible, the leaves on the trees have started dying & dropping already.

Hello

Ohhh, I can relate lads. Weather in the Northern lands can be harsh from time to time. In the exact opposite, here in Mexico we are cooking ourselves with the heat waves... lousy indeed.

Here in the UK it feels like it has been autumn since the middle of July!! the weather has been terrible, the leaves on the trees have started dying & dropping already.

I think somewhere in my DNA is a british trace, because I love windy and misty days. I live in a place that used to be like the highlands in Scotland. 30 years ago, the region had one of the most big fog forest in the world... now, it is only a dry wasteland. A million thanks to our corrupt government and local authorities, they allowed corporations to erase from the map our dear and ancient forest. I'm sorry, just to think about it makes me feel like I've had crow for breakfast :censored:.

Cheers and keep up the good work.
Sergio.
;)

Looks Great. the way it's taking on form is just so awesome to see...
Will you guys include a 2D panel as well?

Can't wait for more shots of the external model at the moment. I'm itching to see that and the animation included.

Keep up the good work... I can see Your Dash can give MJC a run for their money... ;)

I'd like to sign up to do liveries, Maybe help Pop out a few for release... :p

Hi there!
There has been little activity lately, but now it's getting up. For me, fsdesign is a winter-based hobby, so that's why it happens so little in the summer.

I have given the propellers a real makeover, the old ones were not quite correct.
Otherwise, I work a little in the cockpit and on the outside. so something happens slowly but surely.
will try to finish all of the texture mapping on the exterior model at this moment.
