• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Very quick question, anyone know if I can reduce the size of these rather than going back to the original .pds file, reducing image size in photoshop (mainly because I used 2048 x 2048 to get the detail) and going through all the conversion process again

Thanks

Hi,

You could just load them in an image editor that supports DDS and resize it there. But I would advice you to go back the PSD and start from there. That will give you a better quality in the end, because the DDS has compression. So loading a DDS means you have already lost some data.

Cheers Arno, I had a feeling that's what I would hear :( At the moment the texture file for this particular object is 47mb  have you any idea what the minimum size I can shrink some of the plates to and still retain clarity, i.e the biggest, 2048 x 2048 are something like 5.6 mb, I am thinking half that as they have a lot of building detail, however I also have roof stuff etc and I am wondering how low I can go

Cheers

Paul

Hi,

In general I stick with 1024x1024 as maximum size. Textures bigger than that might not work correctly on every PC.

Almost 6 MB is quite big for a texture, I assume you use DXT3 or DXT5 for it in that case. Do you have an alpha channel? Else using DXT1 will give you a smaller file already.
