• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Today I noticed that while developing on ModelConverterX I have a few second delay when starting the tool. This seems to be related with checking for newer versions. I am just wondering if you as users as have this issue, or that it is only in my development environment?

I notice a delay of almost 5 seconds here. It is indeed normal that it takes a little while to open the form. But I guess it must be something in my development environment, else I would have seen more complaints here on the forum :D.

Hi George,

That is quite long indeed (too long I would say). When you disable checking for updates in the options is the delay then gone?

Has always had a few second delay W7 x64, i7-980.

Just enough to make you wonder if it is going to start.

I'd say a few seconds.

Hi Arno.

No delay when disabled. I think the delay would vary depending on firewall, antivirus and your internet speed.

Hi Dick,

I guess so. But the server is here at my own home, so I would expect little delay for myself and even I had some. Let me see if I can do something about it.

If I disable checking for updates, it opens immediately :)

Edit. Perhaps if a dialog were displayed saying "Checking for update" it wouldn't seem as bad ;)

Yes, I will look at this. I expected the update check to be rather quick, so I didn't bother with a dialog or so. But maybe it is time for one now.

Should be fixed in the next development release. In the end the solution was quite easy, I just run the check for update in another thread so that it doesn't delay the main program. But I could not really test it at home, since I had hardly a delay this time....
