• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Did someone say "localizer?"

The individual antenna was a pain to make.

Must admit that I've tried modelling this before and due to the filesize, and it wouldn't show in FSX for some reason LOL

Nice job though.

Thanks :)

The model version is 415 Kb, textured is 453 Kb, Denver has 12 approaches so... (peeks at a calculator)... that's 5,436 Kb / 5.3805 Mb. Not too bad, and compressed files are a thing of wonder

That sort of construction can be made much easier by using the 'Array' tool in the 'Tools' menu. If you've never used it before then a quick few trial/practice runs should set you straight, it's quite easy and saves a lot of time and effort. Also, make sure that the construction of the various parts is of the absolute minimum amount of polys that you can get away with. For example, those multiple black coloured antenna elements in your screen cap, they seem to be of circular cross section, can you get away with making them 4, 5 or 6 sided ? The red coloured vertical poles, are they round ? make them square sectioned to reduce the polycount. At the end of the day, who is gonna argue with you that the real ones are not square, besides, many antenna manufacturers make the same objects differently. That's a design philosophy I've always used, albeit sparingly.

Skip.

Looks great. How many polygons is it?

I know that I'll need to find a balance between detail and frames, but for now, I just want to get the models done and then I'll tweak them later.

hmm just a thought... why not re-design the posts to use planes, and make use of transparent textures as I doubt that travelling at high speed you're bound to really see the posts or have time to really see them for long. As the only thing you really see are the lights, this instance the effects itself.

problem is you create a high detail object and then create multiple copies of it, which in turn will impact your frame rate, quite substantially.

anyway just a thought,

Regards

Gareth has a point.

While its great modelling, part of the discipline of scenery design is putting the detail where it will be noticed/appreciated. And these poor old ILS antennas way down near the fence never get noticed or look at much :)
