• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Disappearing Runways

Hi All
I have searched for material on this problem and can't find anything.

My problem is having been away from scenery design for a short while, I have returned and am using scenegenx and afcad and FSDS3. I have updated my sceneries for Jamaica and have a problem occurring that I don't understand.

When my aircraft is on the runway and I take off, the runway is fine but when I do a circuit and return to land the runway disappears below the default scenery when it come into contact with the aircraft. If I slew the aircraft back up to height the runway looks fine again. The runway and taxiways are produced in AFCAD. Scenegenx is used for the exclude, flatten and positioning buildings only.
Can anyone help me with this.
Cheers
John

Hi Johnboy,

I experienced that this is caused by different altitude values for the airport-bgl and the flattening of the scenery.

In the very beginnings of my current project LOWS I started having a look on the AFCAD2-file for the airport. Within the runway properties I saw that the elevation is 430.1 mts. So I thought this must be the value that I would have to use making a flatten area with FSFLATTEN.exe. The result was the same that you described.

After importing the AFCAD-file into SCENEGENX I found out that the altitude value for the runway is 430.072. I then used this more accurate value for a nex flatten area and the bug was fixed.

So it seems to me that AFCAD rounds the values that are stored in the corresponding airport-bgl. Use the value that is shown in SCENEGENX and the probs should be solved.
