• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Distributed .dll

I attempting to create an distribitable dll add-on for MSFS. Is it safe to say that only the Deluxe edition of MSFS can use this add-on or is it a way to tell the Standard edition to use this?

I loaded a copy of Standard on my laptop and didn't see any xml files similar to the ones Deluxe uses for including files (i.e. dll.xml)

Thanks.

I don't think those files are there as standard. You have to either create them yourself or a previous add-on installer may have done it.

That is correct. The "default" files are created when the SDK is installed, so if the user has a Standard FSX version, your installer will have to create and place the file for them.

Ok that seems to work. If you setup the SDK file struct you can place your .dll files in there and Standard Editions will recognize them.

I also appears to look in the C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX folder as well which I believe is created by both editions of MSFS.

Thanks for you help!

Remember that you can't simply copy your dll.xml to the right place in case the user already has that file with add-ons configured in it. You'll have to do some clever file editing and insert your changes into it.

Mr Dowson's not going to be inpressed with the volume of support requrests if you break FSUIPC for a load of users! :))

True! <G>

Best to advise users to re-run the FSUIPC4 installer afterwards, just in case. It will scan and correct the DLL.XML file. ;-)

Happy New Year!

You will get into trouble if you hard code these location directly into your install program.

Look in the registry for the locations.
