• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v5 Double Taxi signs?!?!

Out of the blue (meaning I'm not sure exactly sure at what this happened), I am now seeing double taxi signage throughout my custom ADE airport? And it is happening at another airport bgl I created. I have seen them next to each other and at another airport I saw them on top of each other. Looking at my ADE project I can see there is only one sign for each location ( there is no way I would have created two signs at every taxiway location. I went back to previous versions of my ADE bgl file thinking maybe at some point I introduced some error, but even the past versions are showing double. I tried an exclude poly but no difference.

My initial thoughts are the default airport signage is somehow showing up even through my custom photoreal ground imagery and my custom airport bgl.

Has anybody ever had this happen to them before?

little update - did a few tests.

1) - I created a new sign in ADE and called it named it "TEST". It was NOT duplicated. I then went to a location where I saw double signs.

2) - I moved the one I saw in ADE (in ADE there are no duplicate signs), a good distance so I could distinguish. Result, I could the sign I moved and the duplicate was still at its original location.

This has to be default airport signage bleeding through but why all of a sudden? What triggered it? Tried another exclude rectangle only selecting taxi signs but no better. I then selected in ADE "TOOLS -> REMOVE STOCK DATA". Still no change... what the????

Here's something really bazzar... I loaded up an older version of the same scenery which I have in a different Scenery folder and NONE of the signage is showing at that airport now?!? I mean not only taxiways but hold short signage!

My head is spinning. I did find a post way back in Sep 2011 about the same issue... something having to do with micro exclusions? XML files? Oh boy will need to start reading more. HELP!

Nix the airport with no signage. I did not have an ADE bgl loaded... ha! What's interesting is I took the bgl that was showing double signs and placed it in the scenery folder that was missing the bgl (what I just mentioned). and there is it NOT showing any duplicate signs.

Ah... so much fun. Please bear with me. Sometimes I end up typing so much here but sometimes that helps me solve the issue as I think and type.

I believe I found where the issue appeared - going from one version of my airport to the next (I save many copies as I design), somehow the version got corrupt and shows double. The version before does not. Why I cannot answer. Oh well, several days of design work will have to be re-done unless there is some way to copy part of an airport and past into a different version of the same airport.

Been there, done that with fsx. The only way around it that I found was erase the lot and start from "Open stock airport" again.

It is normal with ADE and P3Dv5, particularly for airports originally created for earlier versions of P3D. The way around it is to 'Load Stock Data' in ADE, making sure that you include taxi signs (I would suggest you import stock buildings too) and then to manually delete all that you definitely don't want. It's a pain, but this will apply the requisite micro-excludes and you should then be free of unwanted signs!

Thx for the replies guys. Let me ask this - is it possible to copy a portion of an airport I customized and export/copy in some manner and import/place it onto a new airport version? That would save me hours of work. See some export options... plan to try them tomorrow. Also saw one cannot really open two instances of ADE. Too bad has copy/paste would have nice that way.

Yes, it’s theoretically possible - though I’ve never tried it. Once you have the part-airfield completed to your satisfaction, save it as a new project and then compile it to .bgls. You can then import the relevant .bgl to your ‘master’ project and it should be incorporated. I have no idea if this will achieve what you need, but it may be worth a shot.

As you say, you can’t run two instances of ADE, so copy-and-pasting between instances is not possible.

An alternative approach is to open the stock airport in ADE and delete absolutely everything. Save and compile it with the objects as a separate file; the deletion will create all the excludes necessary (you won't be able to delete the stock runways or navaids in a mass delete, but that doesn't matter). Import the OBJ bgl to your project (having made a save file first in case this doesn't work!). The excludes will be imported and incorporated - and will now be visible within ADE. I have just tried this process with an airport I've been doing some work on and it definitely works - remember to enable excludes in the View menu.

This is an FSX and early P3D issue when using ADE. When you delete a taxi sign, for a default airport, it reappears due to an additional underlying "placeholder" (since I'm not sure what it's called) that calls for basically an auto generated taxi sign. It is the unseen object that generated the taxi sign. I also have had this happen if you move a taxiway, and that existing taxi sign. The one that is moved is viable, and then ADE regenerates that original sign in the original location. You must delete the underlying object that is generating the sign. This is common for default airports. If anyone knows what the object generating these is called, please add to this thread posting.

Saw your comments and appreciate it. Alrighty, how about a little more wierdness. I opened the airport a few days later after working on other projects and low and behold there was no double signs??!! I then went to the ADE version where I saw the issue and loaded it up in P3D... again no double signs. I had done nothing in the meantime. So what the..... I dunno - can't fix it if it isn't broke. o_O
