P3D v4 DX12 Impacts

Hi,

I downloaded P3Dv5 Professional last night with the hopes that my W7/DirectX 11 would run it (some claim they have been able to). I can't get it past initial start.

So my question is, if I upgrade to W10/DX12, will the latest build V3 and V4 run fine? I must preserve the ability to develop FSX/v3/v4 (customer base).

Perhaps its time for a new PC to support true 64bit environment.

Thanks!
David

And what if your graphics card does not give full support for DX12?
(Sorry, I am not able to download v5 at tyhe moment as I am not at home.)

Roby...

I would say, if your system isn't fully DX12 Compliant then No.

My problem is I have to either get a new computer or upgrade my video card (not enough memory). Otherwise, I'm Ok.

I think I will remove v5 and just download the latest v4.5, which is a week old.

Read the System Requirements to see if your current machine just needs moving to Windows 10 or whether you actually need new components/new machine. I don't know who says they got v5 to run under Win 7, but LM are very clear about needing Win 10.

And specific DX12

DirectX 12 with feature level 12_0 or greater

DX Wiki

V5 has a recommended Video card of 8 GB + (e.g. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 2080 Ti) WOW! Leaves me out. Too Bad looked promising. Even 4.5 wanted a 1080Ti

Was fighting with v4.5.x - No more than 6 FPS on installed Aircraft. Got 60-70 FPS in Pause mode and F-35/F-22. All others < 10 FPS Very strange. No time to fiddle with it.

I found that often it takes a computer at $ 1,500 to run a game at 75% of its potential :)

An update.

I upgraded to W10, DX12. I can run the lighter airplanes fine on V5, with medium slider setting (nothing is on low). If I try to load the F-35 or the F-16, it will fly fine for a few minutes and then OOM-CTD.
My graphics card is a GTX970, which to my amazement, can launch V5!

Now, I do have the Pro version, so my fighter models simulate ordnance. At this time I'm not sure how much of an impact that has, but those weapons are supposed to be the best in the business. When I swap the HUD to AA on F-16....with radar active, you can hear the search tones (pretty cool!).

In any case, I'm going to get a a 2080 class card next week, so I think that will make things smoother.
On a side note......performance is SUUUUPER smooth, clouds look great, but autogen mehhh!!! Id rather see FSX Vegetation. :)

Herc doing great!

I still use my workhorse GTX 1070. 8 gigs. Works perfect in V5. All sliders 3/4 to the right. I have a custom computer from 2016
