P3D v4 Dynamic Reflections Testing

Hello...

I would like for any developer that has Prepar3D v4.4 with at least 2gb (or more) of Video RAM to look at this test model ( of 2 Chrome Spheres). They are located at the airport: EGNV (Durham Tees Valley Airport) - the end of RWY 5.

Both Spheres were done with PBR materials with the left-hand side sphere (when facing down the runway) has a bump map, the other does not.
One of the settings in Options needs to be changed (Default is "Off"), that setting is "Dynamic Reflections" (under the "Lighting" section). Please set it to "Medium" or higher.

I'm asking, those that are willing to take a look, if "you" are seeing any yellowish/gray blips or flickering on the chrome Spheres (usually appears near the bottom of both Spheres).

Please comment If you do see or not along with the size of your Video RAM that you have along with the manufacturer.

Attached file: Copy the contents within the zip file into your ...\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons folder and add it to your scenery list and activate it.

Thanks!!

Hi Doug.

I have a Nvidea 1070 with 8GB. I see the left-hand sphere is highly 'pixelated'. This causes a flickering of sorts on the left handed sphere as I move the aircraft. There are no yellow or gray blips. 1080p monitor settings.

Hi

Doug and I have been in contact due to this issue for a few weeks now, as an example this is what i get in the reflection of the sphere (dynamic Reflection is set to Ultra).

The images below are me turning to the right in slew mode capturing each 'frame' of movement, in reality the 10 or so pictures happen in less than a second then repeats so looks like a flicker. As far as I can tell it is the runway reflection which does this, possibly the taxiways to a lesser extent, because the flicker does not happen when I'm well away from a runway.

The effect happens on any object close to or near the runway with Dynamic Reflection turned at Medium or above, so anything that has any type of reflection no matter how small it flickers (aircraft included) with this yellow white...what ever it is...looks like a Z fighting issue.....these images show it on a bigger scale.

Note: the control tower glass in the background also has the same flicker but only on the side facing the runway, image 1 has blue sky through left window but yellow in the right, Image 3 has yellow in both windows .

Thanks, Dick for checking on it...

If I understand you correctly,... the pixelation - meaning it looks blocky in some way?

Yes, blocky texture. The above picture shows the difference between the orbs. But probably not related to your problem.

The sphere on the left has a normal map which adds a dimpled surface if thats what you are seeing, it looks perfectly correct in your screenshot Dick. Left sphere uses textures, the right sphere has no textures the reflection is set within the material in 3dsmax.

So just to update this in case anyone else finds themselves with this same issue. Doug and I came to the conclusion it was our graphic cards that was causing the issue, even though we had different cards. Doug replaced his first and confirmed it. I changed mine today (I changed from a now 6 year old AMD card to a Nvidia card) and can also confirm it has solved the flickering issue.

Aging hardware!

Regards

Stevo ;)
