• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Editing an ground poly

Hello,

is there a possibility to edit an ground poly which is already compiled using MCX?

If not, is there a different which can do this?

Thanks in advance,
Holger

Yes , you can export the .BGL of your choice to another format , lets say .DAE , edit it with your 3D Modeling program of choice , export and then with MCX convert to .BGL again .

For FSX/P3D ground polygons that are corrected for the curve of the earth, it might better to first use the Scene Builder Wizard to get undo the curve correction and combined the various parts back into one object. Then after editing run it through the GPW again.

How excactly do you go from .bgl to .dae?

Hi,
I have a question related:
If I have created a GP BGL using MCX wizard once, then I need for example to adjust some texture settings, do I need to export the new BGL and run again the MCX GP wizard?

Once you generate a GP with MCX GP Wizard, it slices the polygons and you may not get the original bgl back, in which case you cannot edit textures there.
It is better to just go back to your BGL or MDL pre-MCX, edit textures with MCX, and save it.......then reload into MCX GP wizard.

Thanks, this confirms why my GP starts to flicker after editing texture parameters :)
Running MCX GP wizard must be the very final step.

Thanks all for your help!

Unfortuneately I didn´t make my intention clear enough. I have the problem that a Apron groundpoly (FSX) are invisible in P3D V4. So I´m wondering if I can convert the bgl to a p3d V4 format to make it visible in P3D V4?

Unfortueately I can´t load the bgl into MCX. Message is something like empty object or so .

Thanks again,
Holger

If you want to only convert it open the existing bgl and save as P3D bgl should be enough.

But if you can't open the existing one that's weird. If MCX reports it as empty, then it didn't find the polygons. Was the bgl made with the GPW?

I don´t know with which tool the scenery was made. Its a payware scenery and it was made for FSX up to P3D V3. I´m switched over to P3D V4 and the scenery works fine except the ground which is invisible.

Which scenery are you talking about? Maybe something special in those ground polygons.

For Instance GAP Bremen or Aerosoft Dublin and Lisbon. Its not just one scenery. 90% of the FSX/P3D V3 sceneries are fine in P3D V4 and the others got that invisible Apron and Taxiways issue. Some of them will be officially fixed in the future. For now I´m looking for temporary solution.

And all of them don't import in MCX as well?

I'm getting curious what kind of BGL files they are :), MCX should be able to open all different ground polygons types.

Me too :)

But I don´t want to make a big thing of that. Some sceneries were already fixed by the developers and it took a long time to do it. So it is probably complicated and a simple conversion isn´t possible even if MCE could open the bgl.

At the end it seems that I have to be patient until the developer themselves fix their sceneries (hope they will do so) ;)

As long as the tweaking is for personal use only I don't have much of a problem with it. But distributing such work is over the boundary of what we accept here at FSDeveloper I would say.
