• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Effects Issue

Is there a 'bug' in FSX that prevents the HOD (Hour Of Day) parameter from working with special effects? I can get the effects to work normally, but when I set the Parameter for the Hour Of Day I want them to appear, they never do, for example, if I set a lighting effect for say 6:00pm to 1:00am (that would be HOD=18,01) it should show at 6pm and continue until 1am, but the effect never turns on. If I don't set a time parameter and use the effect normally, it works fine. Is this a bug just like the same bug that I found out about that prevents the DAY/NIGHT parameter from working or the DUSK/DAWN parameter from working. The HOD seems to work randomly, but most of the time it don't, and does the HOD use the location of the aircraft or does it use the time of the system?

That's all I needed was some links to help, I had seen a disscussion on here before about this but couldn't find it. Thanks.

I looked it over, and thanks, that answers the question. It really is a FSX BUG. I'll just live with it. Most of the effects are lighting effects and I can just remove the param and let them stay on. the sound effects like birds and crickets is a different story, but I found that setting them to work at RANDOM and adding the Hour Of Day (HOD) parameter seems to work, they just only work at random, but I can live with that. It's a 'bug' in FSX that never got fixed in developement, you just have to make your own 'work-arrounds' for it.

FYI: It would IMHO, be most appropriate to instead have posted this inquiry in the topic-specific forum available here: :pushpin:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/categories/special-effects.118/

Posting nearly every inquiry in the General Chat forum 'may' abuse forum intent, if seeking high visibility to quickly elicit replies.

We all 'take our lumps' at FSDEV if we have queries on topics that are highly specialized, but are posted in lower traffic sub-forums.

Some FSDEV forum participants repeatedly seek replies there, ("fishing" ?) in lieu of performing due diligence of search / self study.

In rare cases, AFAIK, forum mods may tolerate additional double-posts, or posting outside a special topic-specific forum.

But IIUC, mods expect that we always list the version of FS we are inquiring about , and post queries first in a proper sub-forum. :pushpin:

It's a 'bug' in FSX that never got fixed in development, you just have to make your own 'work-arounds' for it.

The work-around is simply to place the Effect twice, as explained in several of the threads,

Yep, it is an inconvenience; we do call it a bug, but AFAIK, during FSX development, ACES probably left it un-fixed for a reason.

Study the examples of placing it twice, and you should be able to get it to work; but RANDOM can be desirable sometimes as well.
