• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Effects turn invisible

Hi,

we use a lot of effects for lights on top of mdl models or directly as standalone effect placed in the scene via SimConnect. Locks good so far but after a while the effects turn invisible. All of them!

It is my belive that it is somehow triggered by the loading and unloading machanisms for models and terrain.

So one szenario is if I place an effect like 100 miles away from the own entity and than jump there the effect will never show up even if the terrain is completely loaded. Or if I don't wait for the terrain to be loaded an place the effect right next to the own entity it will also never appear. Only if I wait first for the terrain to be loaded and place the effect then next to the own entity the effect will show up.

Another szenario is to repeadetly place and remove mdl files that contain effects in the scene. After a while not only the effects that belong to that mdl file that was placed an removed disappear but also all other effects in the scene.

Please help!

Some effects may have issues with DX10 as aircraft lights have this issue and only show from specific directions.
See if this happens in DX9 as the aircraft lights always work perfect.

Thanks for that hint but I'm sure I can rule that out.

After more tests it seems that there is some kind of a maximum number of effects you can have in the scene and that my effects never really have been removed from the scene.

So in more detail. I have an mdl file that contains just effects. It is meant to be runway lights. If I remove and add the runway lights for some time. The lights disapear. Fortunately I found a contellation where not all the lights disapear but just some of them. So I started playing arround with the effect file. Playing with priorities and the effect type. And then when I turned from type 19 to type 25 the effects did not disapear anymore ... ever. So even if I removed the mdl file from the scene the effects stayed. So apperently the effects are not destroyed and that leaves two questions. Is there a limit of how many effects there can be in the scene and why where the effects not removed from the scene?

This is one of the effects I use. Maybe someone can find a problem here?
