• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Error esporting to .MDL file

Ok Arno,
I will download the release and try the whole thing tommorrow. I'll let you know
Thank you for your valuable help!

Fingers crossed. Let us know if you encounter any issues.

Dear Arno,
it's a continuous fight between my system and me (luckily with my kind allied forces...)
I tried to use the development release of MCX, but at the first run i got the message below.
What does that mean? And what shall I do now? Please note that I have .Net 8.0.824.36612 already installed on my win10 pc.
If other installation are needed, please post link, Thank you again!

I have not seen this error before, but it seems to be related with OpenGL used in the preview. So it looks like it is related to your GPU or graphics driver. I'll try to find some more information about the error tonight.

These is all I know about my screen,if it can help...
The graphic card should be Nvidia GEFORCE GT 540M CUDA 2GB and I have some Vulkan RT 1.0.42.1 (???)
All these things for me are incomprehensible like arab or chinese...

Hi,

Like I wrote before it seems this error is related to the OpenGL support or the graphics driver.

ModelConverterX uses OpenGL version 3.3 for the 3D preview. If I lookup the details of your GForce GT 540M graphics card it should support up to version 4.6, so I would expect that should work.

However the DirectX information you showed mentions another graphics card, an Intel HD Graphics 3000. That is probably the graphics card on your motherboard. That card only support up to OpenGL version 3.1 and is thus too old to run ModelConverterX.

So are you sure that you have the right drivers installed to be able to use your NVidia GForce graphics card?

Hi, Arno
I guess the card is active, since right-clicking in an empty area of my desktop screen I can open the NVIDIA Control Panel and get the information below
(in addition in the folder of NVIDIA Corporation i find NVDisplay.Container.exe and other 3 dll's: detoured.dll, nvd3d9wrap.dll and nvdxgiwrap.dll)

If you have both cards active it might be that you have to tell Windows that you want to use the NVidia card for ModelConverterX. In Windows 11 that is in the graphics settings, I forgot where it is in Windows 10.

It is in the same graphics settings, I tried that, but regardless the choice of the three options, it will ever prefer the Intel card.
I was wondering if it is safe to deactivate
disable.jpg
the Intel card (not uninstall

) using the Device Manager before running MCX dev. rel., and when i'm finished re-activate the Intel card.
I don't know, I've always been afraid of graphics cards... I wouldn't like to end up with a black screen!!! 😢
What do you suggest?
Many many thanks anyway!

I more meant a setting like this, so that you can set per application what is used. I would not remove one card at all.

Reading your link, I found exactly what I did, with no result: whatever option I chose, the system always preferred to use the Intel card.
For this reason I would like to try to
1) deactivate (not uninstall) that card,
2) use MCX dev. rel.,
3) re-activate the card.
Tomorrow I have a chance to meet a "system expert" and ask him. I will let you know his opinion/suggestions.

Arno, I never met a friendly person like you. Thanks a lot!

Hi!, Arno,
sorry, but I had no chance to meet that guy yesterday. I’ll think about it a little more, then try to simply deactivate the Intel Card.

The good news is that I found a fantastic… workaround for my problem:
searching through my old hard drives I found ModelConverterX version 1.3, I installed it on the old pc (XP) and the laptop (Windows 10) and it works perfectly on both!
So I finally have the .bgl file for the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca, the "mosque on the water" (it’s actually built on stilts over the Atlantic Ocean) and on place in FSX world!, as you can see from the screenshots.
I will continue in looking for a solution that allows me to use the newest versions of your valuable software, maybe I’ll buy a new laptop!, may be you find other hints for me; in any case I’ll keep you informed.

I really want to thank you so much for all the help and the time you spent taking care of my probem!!!
I attach a zip file containing the folder “Moschea HassanII Casablanca” ready for your Addon Scenery folder in FSX. Please feel free to do anything you like with it, I will never claim copyright for that!
