• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Since 3.1.16(a) - every time I start AIFp, it constantly asks for a .cfg file?

What file is it looking for and why does it keep asking for it?

It shouldn't be auto opening anything unless I ask it to. Something wrong here.

Angelus, the name of the missing file is identified in the warning message. If the noted .cfg file is not available to AIFP, I doubt it is available to Flightsim either.

It's a warning message. If you are otherwise happy with the operation of AIFP, just ignore it. Or, tell AIFP where to find it and AIFP will stop asking.

As for auto opening, if AIFP (or most other applications) sought the user's permission before opening every file, I think you'd find yourself very busy. The .cfg file for the installed flightsim versions is essential to the operation of both AIFP and Flightsim. If you are not happy with AIFP accessing this file as needed, then you should not be using AIFP.

In any case, AIFP is not attempting to open that file when the message you are receiving is issues, it is simply locating it and letting you know when an essential file cannot be found (which many users would consider a good thing).

Well, the warning message says it cant find the FS9.cfg file which is not surprising since its not loaded on my computer (and never has been!)

When AIFP starts, it looks in aifp.ini for a previously-saved path for each FS version. If it doesn't find one it then checks the system registry. If successful in either case for FS9, it then checks that FS9.exe resides in the specified folder. Only if that check is successful will AIFP look for FS9.cfg.

Are you sure you are using 3.1.16(a), i.e., does the title bar say so? If so, it would seem that either FS9 was installed on that computer (and still is at least in part) or there is a valid path to FS9.exe saved in your aifp.ini file.
