• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Errors Exporting from 3DS Max

I did search around here for the answer first. If I missed it please link me to it.

I have 3DS Max 9, with the ACES Toolbar plugin in. I'm trying to get one ordinary box from Max to FS, and its just not working.

I create a box primitive, save it as box_100.max, then run the LOD and Export tool. In the Properties tab I create a GUID and make the friendly name box_100. I get "This model has the following problems:"

LOD Info: #("This model has no correctly named LODs!")
The following parts of this model are broken: Broken GUID or Friendly name
These are the broken items:
The .x file has no GUID or Friendly Name info
Max GUID = [bunch of characters]: .X GUID = undefined.
Max Friendly Name = box_100: .X Friendly Name = undefined.

So... what does all that mean?

Hi,

I have not seen those before, but try to remove the _100 from your part name. If you want LODs it must be _LOD_100, but for a simple object I would just remove that part and give it a meaningful name.

It looks like you set the GUID and Friendly Name with Max's property box instead of with the ACE's tool.

Um, actually I started without it. Same messages.

On the main menu bar of 3ds Max 9 find the menu item Aces Tools. Click on it and select the LODNameTool menu item. This is where it is easiest to set your GUID (which the tool can generate for you) and provides an edit box for the FriendlyName. If both these boxes are properly filled in then you will not have a problem exporting. Do make sure that there are no spaces in the FriendlyName and that you have the LODNameTool generate the GUID. Then export using the .x format and you should be good to go.

Sorry to bring this topic back to life...

...but I'm having the same problem.

When I click the "verify" button, I got these two messages:
1. The same "The .x file has no GUID or Friendly Name info / Max GUID = [bunch of characters]: .X GUID = undefined. / Max Friendly Name = house: .X Friendly Name = undefined.";
2. And "missing FSX shaders".

Do you have any idea what could be happening?

I gave friendly names to my objects (just a box, to test), and used the function to generate GUID (and wrote a friendly name above the GUID).

Thank you.

Any ideas please?
