• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

This all falls under the heading of smoothing, so before I describe this, I should ask if there's anything you all use for smoothing other than Smoothing Groups. I have to confess to not fully understanding smoothing, I guess...

Does this seem sound to you? I was doing a tutorial on modeling and the artist recommended that for an area I don't want smoothed, to select two edges, the use a connect modifier to slide a new edge closer to the edge I want to exclude. The theory here is that it will only smooth to that placed edge and no farther. Now I have been trying this, but not having a whole lot of luck with it. I want my fuselage round, but I want the cockpit trim to stay sharp...

What do you guys think?

Select the polgons of the cockpit edge and set smoothing group to 0 or none?

I thought of that. That works ok, but I'm not getting the smoothing I want elsewhere. It's really starting to tick me off that this thing is so close to done, but the little stuff is killing me. Before I go back to the Peashooter I was working on, I want this worked out...

Hey KDRyan,

If you simply want to get rid of those lines, do this..

Convert to Editable Poly
Select Edges
Click Delete

The Edges should delete fine and leave the Poly skin intact. If one should be left remaining, then its sharing Vertices that cannot be deleted. Find out why, fix it, then delete the remaining Edge.

Another way is to delete the area around the edges, (with the part being a E-Poly), and then select Border, click on the opening, and click Cap on the RH control panel under the Border menu.
