• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Export DAE

Hi, My first post here even though I've read your site from the very beginning and also many thousands of your posts on Avsims Scenery forums...

Just had to say thanks for all you have given over these last 15 years or so that I've read you...

I really have enjoyed your 1.4.0 r2395 as it's just brilliant work, and I have to also say thanks for all the fine YouTube training video's...

Ok I just had a quick question... I have a bgl which has a fence that crosses a highway and I've wanted to fix the fence for a long time just for personal use and was hoping ModelConverter X would have had a .dae export, or a .skp export filter that I could have used to correct the bgl in Sketchup...

I see the Import formats all all there but can you explain to me why ModelConverter X can't use the .dae, and or .skp export filters...? I just figured there must be some legalities involved but if you could clarify why they are not included in ModelConverter X it would help me just understand better...

Thanks...
bnick

Hi,

Exporting DAE files is on the wish list, but because the format is not so easy to implement I haven't done it yet. The skp folder can't be supported, because as far as I know the specification is not public.

I would have to check, but I think sketchup can read wavefront obj or 3ds. So you could use these formats to get the model into sketchup.

Thanks Arno on the DAE possibilities... I was able to export from your new MCX\Lib software an obj along with your cleaned up dds's into Autodesk's old but free Softimage Mod Tool 7.5... It was able to export a DAE which I loaded Sketchup and remove that fence I was after... From Sketchup I was able to export a corrected DAE and into Model Converter X it went to be exported both as a new object and scenery... Library Maker took care the final XML and BGL and now the fence is gone in FSX...

As a side note I have long since used Sketchup's Building Maker to generate my DAE's and then within Sketchup I'd skin them with higher-res digital pics I'd shoot myself... The finished DAE then exported out of Sketchup and would be processed through your little gem MCX\LIB... Well sadly I read last night that Sketchup's Building Maker module was retired and no longer accessible... Many people in varied businesses and gaming depended on that great program as an important tool...

Building Maker helped me to create many hundreds of fine models for my FXS and XPlane... Now it will just be Sketchup, my AutoCAD Architectural Desktop, your MCX\LIB package, and the new free Softimage Mod Tool, Oh yeah, along with Photoshop CS6 and SBuilderX, ha... Can't forget them...

Thanks again...

Hi,

Glad to hear you got it all working.

Yes, it is sad google retired the building maker, I thought it was a nice tool. I haven't seen many other applications that offer the functionality in such an easy way.
