• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Export failure

I'm trying to export a very complex model to FS9, but I'm getting this error at the end of my log file:

Start! (F:\Graphics\gmax\gamepacks\fs2004\plugins\A321\Exterior\A321-100_CFM_exterior_110.x)
Loading X F:\Graphics\gmax\gamepacks\fs2004\plugins\A321\Exterior\A321-100_CFM_exterior_110.x...
Assertion failed: file .\xfileloader.cpp, line 1815 (m_iAnimNext < ANIM_SIZE_MAX)
Error: More animations than the 1200 allocated.Error: More animations than the 1200 allocated.Error!
Error!

I've broken the exterior and the shadow model in 2 parts, the interior in 4 to make sure I'm under the limit for a single .x file. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Hey Alexis,

When I had problems with animations, I was;
* Under numbers '200'
* Had animations at the main model and second model sections

I fixed it by;
* Exporting main model LOD sections at 300 on up
* Placing all failing animations in the last highest numbered LOD, such as 'myplane_700.X' and 'myplane_interior_700.X'.

That got things working. Not all animations failed, but some did and I would place them all together in one LOD bunch.

Also, I would export LOD packages with different names, such as just 400.X, and then later, rename it to 'myplane_400.X'. This way, the model's X file shared 'nothing' with the main 'Myplane.X' file (they will do a blended compile if you keep the 'Myplane' name in there, so if you break it up, it will keep all of them 'pure' and not combined, and that keeps the expandibility system clear. At least that is what I found in the tons of testing I did with the Gmax version of this system.

So, place some of your animated parts into a seperate LOD, export as a number, such as 700, and then rename all your X files properly and compile and see if that works for you.

Thanks Bill, I solved the problem. Something was wrong with scaling in the model, and the specific LOD pard refused to compile. I redid that part of the model and it works now.
BTW, very good tutorial on "oversized" models. I used to upscale the model in Gmax instead of the .x file and had to fight with some issues. Now it made things easier.
