• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

MSFS Export to MSFS

Hi, perhaps a stupid question but:
1) I have succeded to import a bgl file showing a terminal from FSX that I want to use with MSFS- it shows upp correctly in MCX if I provide also the connected dds-files (texture files) in the same folder. My idea is now to convert and export to a file that MSFS can read so I can place the building (terminal) on the right spot according to the SDK for MSFS in the developer mode. How do I proceed?

Hi,

You'll have to export the model as glTF file. Then you can use the MSFS package tool to create a scenery package and place it where you want. The simple scenery example from the MSFS sdk should help you there.

OK, I have now succeded to export FSX object (a terminal building) and convert dds files ( textures) to png as well as the bgl file for the object by using MCX- where/how to place them in MSFS folders? I have an airport folder in the Community folder in MSFS where the flatterned bgl is located ( from the "Packages" in ADE projects), can I simply place the bgl/png files there or? Or is it easier to use the Dev mode in MSFS?

Hi,

MCX can't make a MSFS bgl file directly. As far as I know you also can't just place files in a package, you need to use the package tool for that.

As I said the simple scenery sample from the MSFS sdk shows you how to place scenery objects.

I am not comfortable with the SDK yet. I was wondering if I can not import the bgl and png files from the MCX export into the ADE and place the terminal building there and the compile it and use the file from the Packages folder as with the modified (removed terminal) file? Which I put in the Community folder...
if yes - howto..?

Hi,

That might work as well, I haven't worked with the MSFS ADE myself yet, so can't tell you how to do it.
