• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Export warning: "explicit OBED scaling.....

Stange I have a model that export fine. I delete one item (an editable mesh object) and re-export the same model without changing anything and I receive the following message:
"The model has an explicit OBED scaling matrix prepended to it. This is unnecessary and sould not be done".
Somebody can explain why this message ? I have no clue and before going any further in developping my scenery I want to know how to gete rid of the anoying message.

I have no idea what it means (I think it may be something to do with changing the units in gmax), but I've had it a few times and I've not noticed anything different with the way things are exported. The asm files seem normal so I don't think it will affect anything other than your sanity when you are modelling.

The proximate cause of an "OBED Scaling Error" is typically "Ungrouping" a collection of parts that include one or more parts that had at one time been resized with the Uniform Scale Tool. The process of "Ungrouping" will engender a rounding error.

As a result, I rarely use the Group feature at all, and then only after making sure any parts that've been sized with the Uniform Scale Tool have had "Reset/Scale" applied to them prior to Group(ing) them.

The ONLY known method I've found to "fix" the OBED Scaling Error issue is to create a new, empty project, and "Merge" the last saved version of my work...

...this also has the added benefit of cleaning up the Material Library, since only currently Applied Materials will be merged... :D

I have also had success in removing this message by using the Reset XForm button that can be found on the Utilities tab.

re: warning message

Thanks a lot guys for the explanation. It will follow your advise to remove the message.
Cheers,
GeeBee

The "Reset Scale" button under the hierarchy tab (suggested by Arno on another thread elsewhere) seems to have solved this problem for me.

Well it help here too, wanting to export a havy model which was making to crash Max I attached all the parts, and then this message poped up. but the trick seem to work.

I'm happy to learn that this *OLD* thread provided the answer to your question... :D

One other thought comes to mind now though. If you open the "Track View Dope Sheet" for your scene, you can click on the Transform matrix option in the Dope Sheet and see what the scaling is. If it is not X:100.0 Y:100.0 Z:100.0, then you will need to use the Reset X-Form tool to reset the scale...

Yes,it was funny I was searching in the net and the answer direct me here,it was very weird, the object was not so heavy, but had 56000 textures vertices and a lot of polygons, something so, I think I applied a uv warapping for a small part, and the xform and export without problem and the object is very light indeed.
Anyway this was a Dae model which I was trying to convert to fsx model. (a nightmare)
