• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Exporting?

Hi George,

I can reproduce the problem here now, not sure yet what causes it though :).

I also noticed that I had to press the "Set default transparent" button multiple times for the same texture. It seems it does not work correctly when multiple parts have the same material. Going to look into that as well.

Got it! It's the noseart.bmp texture. That one also needs to be set to transparent. It seems to add some lines on the nose.

Perfect :D

Might it not be better for MCX to apply default transparency to all textures automatically?

Hang on a minute :redflag:

Why is it that the B-25 converted correctly without needing to set default transparency for any textures?

Hi George,

Are all of the glass textures showing up in the photo of the B-25?

It looks as though with the exception of the glass above the bombardier's position in the nose, most of the glass is missing in that screenshot.

Cheers
Gary

As far as I can tell, all of the glass is contained in the texture files, so if they weren't being interpreted as transparent, they would appear as black.

Here's another one. In order to make the glass transparent (it was previously black) I needed to set default transparency on another texture. Now, the wings are semi-transparent

Yesterday after I shutdown my PC I was thinking the same. For SCASM objects that happens already, I'll check why it does not happen for these MDL files.

Are the glass and wings in the same texture? Could be that the wings have an alpha channel as well, but that it is used for reflection. So in that case you would not have to enable transparency.

Hi,

In the next development release the alpha textures should be detected automatically. I have also fixed the bug that forced you to click "Set Default Transparent" more than once on some materials.

I guess so. The main texture sheet has all of the outside surfaces including the cockpit glass. It has a light grey alpha except for the "anti-glare" patch on top of the cowling. The "glasss" texture is a small bmp with a dark grey alpha.

Ok. I think the problem was that I hadn't set default transparency on the glass but had set it on the main texture sheet.

Having reversed these, it is now displaying correctly in both MCX and in FSX :)

So, it won't work if all textures have default transparency applied automatically. It is up to the user to set transparency according to the particular model.

EDIT.

BTW Gary, you were correct, the glass in the B-25 doesn't have a texture. I think this was a fix for use in FSX.

True, but I think it will be easiest to enable it when there is an alpha channel and manually disable when it should not be transparent, like your wings. I think in general that is less work. But the user always has to check indeed.
