• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Extract roll and g-force data

Hi.
I have a project building a motion platform, and neen to extract roll and g-force data from FSX.
The idea is that roll will give sideways motion and G-force will give the pitch+acceleration feeling.
This is just the first step in making the motion platform actually move, and will hopfully be fed with more values as time goes by to make better motion.
I know i can buy software and harware to do this, but i want it to be as homemade as possible.
I have got the mecanical parts from EL-wheelchairs, and there is also controllers in the chair that i hope to use on the MP.

Can anyone here tell me if that is possible via SimConnect? I'm not a programmer, so if anyone want to take part in the project programmingvise, please stand forward;)

I am located in Oslo, and hope to have the MP ready for the big FlightSim convention at ENGM i September.

Did you want the roll value in radians or degrees?

I don't know exactly what I need. The values extracted will be fed to a converter which then gives the drive the right amount of power. There will be platform sensors that gives signal back to the system that right amount of power "has been delivered".
There is a good example here, http://www.classicflight.co.uk/DriveChain.htm, but due to the cost and the sensation of home-brew, I would rather not buy these components.

This said, I want to get the data directly from FSX not FSUIPC.
I have got a couple of wheelchairs to get some of the parts from. I fell to this choice due to the power of the motors and the already implemented drive system. The motors are controlled with the joystick, and by giving more or less force to the stick, the motors react steady and well controlled.
I hope to use more or less of the system controlling the wheels, since it's already there, and have the effect i need on my platform. If I could somehow let FSX give the signals like I move the joystick, much is already done.

Remember, I have not done anything like this before, and to learn all about the programming bit that have to be done, mean I will never have it operating.
I need your help, and hope to understand more of what lies beneath as i go.

Regards

**Update**

The project is rolling, and I will try to set up a website to document the progress.
Thanks to NotASenator, and his coding, I can continue with the actual building of the platform.

I guess he can answer questions about the data extraction.
