• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

EZ Scenery XML

I am using EZ Scenery on a large scenery project and have inadvertently destroyed the XML file for a large library. I do have the BGL and the txt file. Is there a way to reproduce the XML from these files?:o

By the way I have made a new library completely BUT BGLs produced with the original library do not appear to recognize the new one ( it has the same name) therefore do not show up in the scenery. Working in FS9

I also tried BGL2XML, which works fine but EZ Scenery tells me that the GID files are incorrectly named.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, I really don't want to start this over.

Lost XML File

If you use NewBglAnalyze.exe then you can disassemble the bgl file.
When you disassemble the bgl you normally get a txt file plus all the mdl files.
The mdl files can be deleted. The text file can be renamed to *.xml because it is actually an xml file.
But when you have renamed the text file you must amend the source file quoted in the file to reflect where the mdl's actually on your hard drive e.g. sourceFile="C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\scenery\FSDS_New_Building_House.mdl". This is an extract of my xml file. Your mdl's will have different names of course.
Then just copy and paste.
Check of course that the Guid numbers are the same but they should be.

Hi,

If you make a new library it will get a new (random) GUID, so that would prevent already placed objects from working. I think you will indeed have to decompile the library file using BGLAnalyzer (the version for FS2004 XML files) and then edit the XML file you get to have the correct names. By default all MDL files will get their GUID as name.

Hello again,

I re-read your post because of what Arno said.
Unless you have the original *.bgl and *.txt file then all is lost I am afraid.
However if still have the 2 original files *.bgl and *.txt then you can re-solve your problem quite easily by following the steps I outlined above.
I am assuming that when you made the new library you chose a different name?
Please let us know what happened.

Still having a problem

Hello John and Arno,

I ran the BG Analyzer and all went well. It did not produce a Txt file but did produce an XML file. The Guid numbers were all correct but of course the locations of the MDLs on my computer were all incorrect. There are about one hundred objects in this library but after a few hours I was able to copy and paste the proper locations.

I really thought this was going to work well but when I go to open the XML in the EZ-Library Manager, it sees the XML but when I open it there are no items listed at all........

I have another Library that I use for this project so I tried the exact heading text from it to head this one but still no objects would show up.

I have a feeling that this might now be a simple thing to correct but I have not been able to find it.

John, when I made the new library that did not work, no I used the same name. This last XML is also saved with the same name.

Guess I am still not there yet.

Thanks for the help,

Al

Hi Al,

Can you show the XML that you made, the one that does not show correctly in EZ Library Manager? I guess something might not be correct with it.

Hi,

That code looks OK, I only see a few typos where you mixed up the forward and backward slash. But I don't expect that should cause EZ Library Manager to show no objects at all.

Arno,

When I open that XML with Note Pad it opens fine but of I double click the file it gived me and error:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

A semi colon character was expected. Error processing resource 'file:///E:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9...

sourceFile="F:\GMax Scenes\BCATP\MT B&G\MT_BandG.mdl"/>

Any thoughts on whether this may be the problem and if it is what I am supposed to do?

Thanks,

Al

Hi,

I fixed a few typo's with the slashes and replaced the ampersand character by &

Now it seems to load fine.
