• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

So by now you may know that the flour bombs in FSX are Contoso branded, but did you know that there's Fabrikam brand housewrap in Microsoft Flight?

I wonder what other fictitious brands Microsoft used in flight sim. :)

Another great find. :)

Its also amazing how many "web leeches" exist on the internet that try to sell products and services using fictional "Fabrikam" info. o_O

https://www.google.com/#q=fabrikam&start=0

However, some web sites that use the name Fabrikam are actually rather humorous, ex: http://fabrikam.fi/

One might wonder if their dedicated virtual employees are such enthusiasts for the source of their product's arboreal raw material that they are all card-carrying members of a community service group named the "Sons of Birches" (...not to be confused with the 'John Birch Society') ! :rotfl:

BTW: Reportedly MS has an official list of company and person names approved for use by their legal team: :pushpin:

PS: By the time I'm done reviewing this fascinating study of fictional Microsoft companies, I'll likely have had my '4th' cup of coffee. :coffee:

I wonder why Microsoft gets all the publicity for not endorsing products when LM is much more restrictive about what exists in their virtual world. The original FSX had a broad representation of all aspects of flight that rightly included manufacturers names despite how well they could directly compete with the Microsoft brand in the real world, which included Airbus, the Douglass DC3 and MD-83.
There is a possibility that LM could suffer financial loss by facilitating the simulation of a competitors product that leads to some sort of real world loss. It could be argued that the competitor would be forthcoming with any sort of evidence or information that could reduce LM market share.
There is a possibility that LM could suffer financial loss by providing a simulator with a poor selection of aircraft, maybe adding Alabeo, Caranado and Iris Raptor Driver can mitigate that.

The overall message communicated is that LM is very careful about loss. You see this in the products they sell and one can only wonder how this policy dovetails into any sort of claims or recompense situation. I would feel much more comfortable buying products from a man that uses euphemisms for other products than I would from a man who claims Boeing does not exist.

I'm wondering whether the MS (or LM) legal team would object to using fictional airline names (as implemented by Flight Unlimited III): :duck:

How wonderful that we have met with a paradox. Now we have some hope of making progress. – Neils Bohr

Which bit of old software did I once use?

Grand theft auto continues the tradition of using familiar but subtly altered names and designs.

I'm certain it's much safer and cheaper that way.

What ever happened to the ACME Co. I know Wile E. Coyote was very dependent on it. Maybe he's using Amazon now.

I love stuff like this. Not the "change a letter in a real brand" thing, but instead inventing semi-plausible or parody companies.
Never knew that MS went to such lengths though.
