• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Feature request - upward axis

Hi Arno, I spend several days to solve this problem. I have big amount of models in dae format with "Y up". I tried use your batch to make mdl files and than I tried to make bglcomp xml with pitch option to rotate mdls in FSX to right position. Now I know that pitch in bgl doesn't work. I know, I can rotate model in MCX, but this can be done with only few models, not with large number of models (model of whole town). Can you add some option to MCX to say which axis is "up" (y or z) or add rotate function to batch functions? Another question I have is, how to work with multiple kmz to make bgl with geo-referenced models?

Hi,

An option to indicate if a model is y up or z up would make sense. This is probably a problem in different formats (not only collada).

Adding a rotate option in the batch wizard should be quite easy as well. I think that would be a useful function.

Hi,

Forgot to answer the kmz question. Do you mean you want to combine multiple files into one bgl? At the moment modelconverterx doesn't really have a function for that.

Hi,

You are really quick. If I looking to unzipped kmz, there is one KML file with information about geo-location of models, and folder with couple of dae files.
So if I had a convertor between dae and mdl, it would be possible to create batch program to make either library bgl or bgl with geo-located models or both.

Hi,

You mean you have a kmz file with multiple models in there? Modelconverterx should then import them all, but I must say I never tested it. Do you have a sample file for me to look at?

Hi,

I have added an option now where you can specify which axis is the upward direction. By default it is set to Z, but you can set it to Y if the models have been designed that way.

Hi, Arno

nice work. I tried it on several KMZ files, biggest with 3700 objects and all BGL files works in FSX corectly. So now I used autogen only for vegetation, and by this I save processor time. Thank you.
