• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here and this is much probably not the last one :) My name is Maxime and I am the founder of TOGA project that you may already know since the release of Envtex, a few weeks ago.
I am completely new to the fsdevelopers community but I am reading you for ages as this forum is a huge source of useful information.

Today I registered because I finally decided to begin in scenery design, and of course the goal is to create high quality sceneries. I know I will need to learn a few things and new tools before getting good results. I will start with small airfields first and may be in the future I will create international airports... who knows? :)

First of all, I would like to ask you what is the program you guys are mainly using to create your sceneries, especially payware (but also freeware, there are of course excellent freeware sceneries!). Do you use one for buildings, another for ground polys or just the same tool for everything?

I tried sketchup and it seems pretty easy to use at first sight, especially for 3D buildings, but I have the feeling that it is less powerfull to build detailed ground polygons (not sure about how to create center line in sketchup and easy edge blending).
Do you recommend to try gmax or blender instead? 3DSmax looks too expensive, at least for now :D

Finally, I would like to read the following tutorial but it is unfortunately unavailable as the links are dead, could someone send them or reupload them? It seems it was a great tutorial and a good place to start.

Thank you by advance for your help,
Maxime.

Hi Maxime, welcome to the forum!

In my first project i started using Sketchup for 3d buildings, it was a small project. I encountered difficulties to texturize and to do some of other stuffs, so i decided to move to Gmax. Also, i made the ground polygon of this project using Gmax. It is a very powerfull tool. Now i'm using Gmax, but i'll try Blender to see what i can do. So, i'd recommend you try and see what is the betters for you. There are people who use Sketchup for 3d buildings and ground poly, people who use Gmax, etc. So you can see which one is better for you.

I don't have the file that you looking for, but maybe someone can send to you.

Good luck with your projects!

Hi Felipe,

Thank you for your answer and your encouragement :)
That's an interesting feedback about Sketchup, that seems very powerful at first sight but seems like it can quickly be limited. I will try to find a few Gmax tutorial and see what I can do with it.

About the tutorial I would be very grateful if someone could send it to me.

Thanks !

Hi Maxime,

I'm not much a modeler, but I find gmax the easier way to go when it comes to fs development. 3DS max is the natural path after it.

Jorge.

Yes Danie, on the wiki site the link to Dropbox does not contain any file. I would like to return with one of my projects and those manuals would be very helpful :P
