• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Am trying to access For editing BMP files of SYD_DomHangers.bmp but gives me "drawing failed" Am i allowed to change these files for our VA purposes and how do i access these textures for painting,i do not want to go about this the wrong way, thank you Patrick. :scratchch

Hi Patrick,

It could be that these textures are in DXT format. In that case you will have to transform them to normal BMP files, before your paint program can read them. You can do this for example with ImageTool.

After you have done editing you need to transform them back of course.

man i dunno, image tool stares at me and i stare back at it,i have a BMP file there waiting to go but its all frozen moments,i need to change the font format on the gates and buildings of the bitmap to vectors, somehow change all that then to back to front side ways and inverted!! Is there any CD's or instructional manuals that you can purchase, this is fishing without hook or bait, each instructional piece initiated here asks more questions than it answers for me and time taken to ask and annoying people is offputting, i am willing to purchase same, there is no such item here in the bush and if i say anything to anybody here they would put me down :banghead:

No, I don't think ImageTool has some real documentation.

When you open an image in ImageTool it will show some information on the right side (see the attached image for an example). From there you should be able to see what kind of format the image has at the moment.

If you then go to Image -> Format you can change it to 24 bit for example and save a copy of the image in that format. After that you paint program should be able to read it.

Do what you suggest and keeps saying unknown file format,i try to change files in the bottom draw down there but same message,so what is a basic manouever becomes for me a exchange of helpful but time consuming advice, will go for CDs but one does not know if they are up to date,Thanks regards Patrick. :)

What is the file size of your BML file? Is it exactly 65536 bytes? In that case it could very well be that the texture is not really a BMP, but a RAW images (this was the FS texture format before Fs2000). In that case renaming it to RAW for the moment, should allow you to open it.

Its just the normal Aust/Scenery/ SYD_Dom_term2(170KB)FS2004. Whoo there! i opened it firstly in notepad before and now opened it straight up in image tool, gives me format DXT1 along with file size etc, thats encouraging! k,
YES!!!small steps, first success, changed format to 32 bit now opens in CS will have to work out after editing to get it back but cannot remember what it was,no matter only trial run,big thanks Arno. :D
