• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX First building for first project

Hey guys,

I started Scenery Design few days ago using BLENDER, maybe some weeks nevermind.
Here is my first screenshot of the first building I modelled. It is far far away from beeing finished. While Im modelling, I'll try to learn all that staff. So it will take a long time.

Anyone can tell me, how to "connect" the cube and cylinder, where they contact each other?

By the way: I got few more questions, mentioned here:

http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/new-to-scenery-design-need-some-help.433538/

Hopefully you can help me.

Hope you like my first try :D

Looks great :)
me too, I'm trying to gon on Blender (from Sketchup) quite hard :P

Greetings, Aviana Scenery

Ctrl + J, to Join the meshes. Boolean modifier (try all three modes to find a suitable) to not only join but also connect them.

And welcome ;)

Some progress I wanna show you.
Progressing is very slow because I need to learn nearly all staff, but with you guys I will do it. A lot of thanks to all the guys, who are helping me.

With ambient occulsion

Can you give me some tips, how to create the handrail and the stair?

Many thanks

Greetings

Edit:
Got problems with converting the model into fsx. Doesnt work for me (preview looking good). Dont know why.

Here are the pic of modelconverter.

I noticed, that there are some not connected edges around the tower, that cant deleted. Dont know how to solve this. Can you please help me?

Looks good so far! Although I can't say anything about the conversion error, I can yet give a recommendation: use Flat Shading on flat surfaces, and Smooth Shading on curved surfaces.

;)

1. the best way to do the steps and the handrail is using an array modifier

2. MCX is not really needed if you have the blender2fsx toolset installed. You can export an mdl file an everything you need are the coordinates to handwrite the placement xml;)
Just make sure to use fsx compatible textures.

I don't know blender, but I sure am familier with your error "degenerate polygon". It means there is a polygon (three vertices) in which two of the vertices are co-incident. As such, the polygon has no area, and is called degenerate. It appears as a line.

This is pretty common when you do unusual shapes and boolean them. As your tower section unioned to your cubic structure. Normally, this error will not stop the compile, and in your case, the compile appears to be successful. Did you look at the bgl file indicated and does it have any file size?

The coordinates show you where the degenerate poly is, and you can delete it without hurting your model.

I notice another common issue in the screenshot, you see the diagonal shading line from the lowest corner of your conic section? You should experiment with "turning" the edge there. Should make that area look more realistic. I don't know blender, so I can only speak in "max" terms, but in max, you'd enter the subobject mode "edge" and find the "turn" command.

Thank you very much. The tip with deleting doubles worked for me. Now I got it to fsx, but still looking horrible :D Need to fix many things so that it looks better. But first steo is done ;)

I need to add/fix lots of taxiways and so on. You recommend to model all buildings, texture them first and then do new taxiways with ade?

Dont know which section you mean exactly ;)

And can anyone explain how to create the stair and the handrail? Sure with modifier array, but using cylinders or how? ;)

Greetings and happy eastern to you

Starting with the main terminal and got one question (and the question above still outstanding). How can i move the marked face down on a lower altitude without reducing the other cubes around it. Just this one need to go down ;)

Edit: Can one combine the two cube, left of the marked one to one cube? All seen cubes are just one cube in blender using extruding

The handrail should indeed be created from a halved cylinder and the steps are just simple narrow planes. You can solidify them if you want more detail.

Go to edge select mode and select the edge limiting the two faces. Go to the edge menu and click edge split. Select your face and drag it down. Fill the gap.

Select the edge between the faces you want to merge and hit delete. Select dissolve edges from the delete menu.

I just returned from a business trip to Philadelphia. How unexpected to see this structure in real life. I didn't realize it was at PHL.
