• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

i am no expert, but its going well, better than expected suprisingly..lucky..

one problem ive encountered is, i export my model again and again, no problem...my gear doors dont fit perfectly..the fsx models have perfectly fitting doors...from a sensible distance they look fine, but close up the fit is not perfect...i made them from detached polys, some of the doors have a pronounced internal shape, which will be visible when open..maybe i shouldnt
detach, but work in situ, this would make working on the gear bays, and gear components more awkward...

this is my fault, your right about that...this is on a pronounced curved surface
so the doors are curved,in 3 directions, a compound curve,at least on the nosewheel...the main gear doors consist of 4 doors, some of which are attached to each other.

i can model everthing, but i have made a basic procedural error...what are the basic principles behind smoothly fitting gear doors with an awkward shape ?...jim

Hey Jim,

Its very difficult to keep from 'moving' something, especially the Fuselage. Thats a nightmare.

As a rule of thumb, I try not to 'move' anything 'back' into position. It will never be perfect. What I do is delete the moved part, select Merge, and re-merge the part from an early build back into the project so that its back, on center, no misalignment.

What I do to keep from moving anything is try to use 'Select' arrow when clicking on parts, as sometimes the parts move when you click on them. If I 'think' it moved a little bit, I will 'control-z' back a step to make sure I didnt.

Save TONS... Always keep saving in the next level up.. Getting up to 100 to 500 saves on a project is nothing. You can then step back for parts if needed, like for a part as a door that is inline.

Right now, you are learning. Dont worry about redoing things, especially now. I may create 5 fuselage meshes before I have one I really like. Mind you, its not usually totally cut out, windows cut, doors animated, lol.. One I did that with, and I intend to do it again from the basic raw early mesh, moving some things around.

But always use the first cut placement of parts... (back on topic). Dont try to move it back once its lost its true alignment. You will not make it perfect. Gmax makes the best door seems. They go invisible when you do it just right.

Tip that is parallel with this subject. If you need to remap the door, attach it to the fuselage and remap everything back again, so that lines are all matching, then go to Element mode and 'Detach' them back again, re-set animations, done... This way, textures are PERFECT, and door alignments are PERFECT, and your eyebrows are happy and naturally colored..

i guessed it was probably so, not too much of a problem, but it will keep me

pointed in the right direction..ime planning my next build, its a bit early but it
will take me a while to collect all the data..while ime learning hands on with
my student build, i will plan a paper build for my future project...

you only learn from mistakes i suppose, so ide better make plenty on my first
build....i would not have arrived at this point without this forum.so thanks to
everybody.....jim
