• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

first scenery project

Awesome have fun and enjoy the creative process. BUT take it from someone who just started using GMax... If you have no experience with GMax or other 3D programs there is a learning curve and prepare for a computer full of trial and frustration files. Use the FSD forum there are a ton of recourses and helpful mentors start small and don't give up the results are amazing and will open a new avenue of imagination. May I suggest "Instant Scenery" it is a payware plug in program that facilitates installing your creations and accesses the entire FSX or FS9 scenery catalog to embellish your creation.

Good Luck and indulge... Dreamer

Most luck to you and may you learn plenty from this resourceful crowd. I wish you success on your endeavours.

Good start and welcome to the world of scenery design.

This island is also part of the Aerosoft package German Airfields 1 - Inselhüpfen (FSX) and very well done (photoscenery like yours), I enjoy the area quite a bit.

Cheers M

You need to mask the area that you don't want visible so that it isn't displayed in flightsim. This means you have to tediously draw path lines in photoshop and cut out that area and make it transparent so that water shows through, very time consuming.

Take your original 122233244.bmp File and make a copy of it.

Next go in photoshop and paint the part you want white and the part you dont want black and safe the file as 122233244_B.tiff.

Now copy both files to the compiler with the .ini and compile.Or with Xbuilder place everything in the work folder and compile.

Here is a pic off how a tiff file looks.

I am no good at tutorials, hope it helps

122233244.bmp is a fictional name, it's just an example. It can be anything, it's just how you named your bitmaps :) . PM me btw if you need any assistance in Dutch.

guy's i'm stuck again cuz i can't find any bmp files
frits your tutorial is good but i can't find the bmp file

It can also be .dds :) , You then have to convert it using ImageTool (In the FSX SDK) to BMP for use in something like Photoshop, unless you have some kind of plugin that directly imports .DDS .

It is the bmp image you created by yourself, so the island. Let's call it xxxx.bmp. Now create a blend mask, as Frits has shown it. White will be later visable, black not. Save it as xxxx_B.tif. The _B let the resample recognize it as blend mask.
