• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Flashing light

Is there any code for a flashing bright light , colored preferably .

Thanks in advance for rreplies

Which application are you working with the generate the object?

l have seen certain codes which one can write as .xml file and then
make a .bgl file with bglcomp .

So you just want to place a flashing light in the scenery?

Usually such lights are part of a 3D object and in that case they could be designed with GMax or FSDS for example.

If you are not using any of these tools to make your objects, you might have some success with placing an effect file with XML code. But I can't remember now if there is an effect for the flashing light.

I recommend you visit the SDK documentation under Special Effects. This is how all light (and particle, including those emitting light) are attached to objects in FSX.

There's also the FXTool dll you can use directly to position and modify special effects directly in the 3D environment.

Hope this helps,

Etienne

Have been trying to find FXTool.dll , no luck so far .
Can you please direct me how l get hold of it
Also in the SDK documentation l have there is no mention
of FXTool and/or light placement .

Hello Geobas,

The dll is called visualfxtool.dll and is included with the Deluxe version of FSX in the Environment folder/Special Effects SDK folder of the SDK.

There is also a file explaining how to attach effects to objects in the SDK under "using modeling tools".

Hope this helps,

Etienne

Thanks Ziporama ,

Sorry l haven't crarified that l am using FS9 .
You refering to FSX . l actually have FSX , but after intalling l realized
it was "heavy" for my system and returned to FS9 not only for that but
because l wasn't certain that all the tools l am working with in FS9 will
actually work in FSX .( AFCAD ,TTools,DXTBmp,FlatEx etc).
However l have found in DVD1 visualfx.dll , which l doubt that will work
in FS9 , and haven't found any executable documentation .

So l'm back to square one .

No issue - I wish I could assist for FS9 but I'm afraid I never did progress beyond gauge writing in that environment. I do know that lighting is somewhat different, in particular, landing lights, between the two versions.

Best regards,

Etienne
