• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello,

I wonder if anyone have some good advice on how to find the float position on a background image quickly without having to unpack the .CAB file....make the changes....CAB the files again.......test in flight sim and then maybe have to re-do it again if things don't matchup on the gauge.

Presuming you're talking about a xml gauge package, AFAIK, you can unpack the gauge, and edit it in aces.exe (if it is aces compatible). When it comes to positioning, you can do all testing and edition in aces without a test flight. If the gauge wasn't written in aces xml scheme, you probably might want to use a text editor like Notepad++. You'll have to test the results in flight then. Other option, and maybe the easiest, might be using panel editor FSPS and edit the gauge. This is a payware tool though, but is very helpfull for 2D panel making/editing, and it is able to provide the information you want without uncab the gauge package.

John, you do not have to re-CAB the XML files at all! Simply leave them unpacked in the same folder to which they were extracted.

Make your edits, save the .xml file, then Re-Load User Aircraft. You can create a keyboard shortcut for this purpose. I chose Shift-Ctrl-R since it's not assigned to anything else by default.

As for determining the float position, simply load the background .bmp file in Photoshop (or similar) and use the mouse to read the x, y coordinates.
