• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Floating scenery objects

I deactivated my addon scenery and meshes so FS loads quicker while making scenery, after building extensive scenery I reactivated the addon scenery and now some objects are floating in the air, I couldn't get the scenery to look right again so I deleted the whole scenery and starting again and now the new buildings I make are also floating (not the whole building, just things like the roof and objects like chimneys on the roof).
Really appreciate any help guys thanks.

Hi,
It is often a texture problem; the part dont find his texture and this is causing the flotting bug.

Ive just noticed its because when I have the mesh resolution on low it looks ok, but when I turn the complexity up some of the polygons and objects float.

Mesh resolution 1m (highest)

Mesh resolution 305m (lowest)

Really annoying, I seem to waste my life building scenery for FS only to just hit a wall and delete months of work for some stupid bug.

Do you think making shared textures unique will cure it?

Thanks for the info anyway, i see after removing the textures the model appears ok, is there no way around it?

Oups, I dont know how FSX manage objects and scenery complexity... I cannot help more.
The only times I had this problem was a because a wrong texture name or path, or a missing day or night texture.

Thanks ill look into that night texture thing, its the only thing ive not tried. Its taking me about 3 hours to make and texture 1 building.

Hi,

Where is the reference point of your objects? That's the point the altitude will be defined for. If the reference point is quite far from the object, you are more likely to see floating objects while altering the terrain resolution.

I know of that issue back in airport 2.10 but the scenery im having most problems with is actually close to the reference point in this case.

I made a simple box and applied texture to all surfaces except the top and bottom, as soon as I add a texture to the top then load FSX i see that the walls are as they should be but the roof is inside the building, about half the altitude it should be so its not just cylinders like i mentioned.

What format are your textures? And is the texture on the roof the same as the walls?

The format is DDS, the texture on the roof is different from the walls.

Even more weird is I just tried to add a dome to the roof and in FSX it appeared inside the building, so I moved it a few meters above the roof and in FSX it appeared ON the roof, then I exited FSX and fired it up again and the dome appeared to be floating above the roof, driving me crazy, I didnt even open FSDS and the scenery is doing crazy stuff.

Crazy stuff like you are describing almost always means missing textures…:D:D

Make sure that you have all the textures you need for the object in the correct format and in the correct folder.

Also if in the “Texture Definition” box if you checked “Night Texture” (LM) make sure you include a night texture in the proper folder.

Guys I think that's the problem, I have night textures made for everything except the roof texture, thanks so much for your help I really appreciate it.

hehe, If I had a dollar for every missing night texture...

Glad you found it Talk to you later.

If I had a pound for everytime ive been told about the night texture problem lol its been many years since I made scenery so ive had a few "duh" moments like this.

Thanks bro
