• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

So I finished up a simple .mdl file exported it to a folder in simobjects/airplanes/SilverBullet/model/SilverBullet.mdl and SilverBullet_Interior.mdl and the model.cfg. But FSX says,"failed to Startup Flight Model. what do i have to do to fly it?

Hello SFH,

Make sure you have the proper names in the 'model.cfg' file listed. Open it with Windows Notepad.

Second, make sure all of your data in the 'aircraft.cfg' file are proper. Make sure the name of the aircrafts 'air' file is also proper and sync's with the name in the aircraft config file as well as the name of the planes folder.

If you have anything mis-spelled, then it will not work.

Each package (airplane) has a config and an air file, such as

Aircraft.cfg
Epic_LT.air

Then in the 'aircraft' config (above) in the 'Registry blocks' (blocks of info for each plane type you have of that particular aircraft, such as pure white, blue stripes, all red, etc), you have at the top of each block the number of each one. If you just have one plane right now (early prototype?) then you just have one registry block.

Here is a typical block from my Epic I made a while back;

[fltsim.0] <---- Number of the block, starting at zero
title=Epic LT Prototype <--- A Name for it
sim=Epic_LT <--- IMPORTANT; Air File Name; Folder Name; Sim Name
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
kb_checklists=EPIC CHECKLIST.htm
kb_reference=
atc_id_color=0x00ffffff
atc_id=N77691 <--- N-Number for ATC
ui_manufacturer=Epic <---- Manufacturer
ui_type="Dynasty" <----Type
ui_variation="N77691" <--- Variant
atc_heavy=0
atc_id_font=Verdana,-11,1,600,0
visual_damage=0
description="blah blah tech-blah"

That should help you to iron out the base settings for your plane to show up.

Adjust all of your configs using Notepad, and you can use 'AirED.exe' (freeware) program from adjusting your Air files on planes, (like flaps, drag, etc).
