• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Found a wee bug

HI
I found a wee bug when trying to save edits to my aircraft.cfg from the Aircraft Editor. When I pressed save, this came up

upload_2014-10-2_16-27-39.png

It looks like its not picking up the filename correctly.

And I managed to get my airports to update but ONLY if I add them the following way.

Airports --> Find/Collect Airports

Tick my stock airports (FSX) and then make sure Scenery Library radio button is selected
Then select the Addon Airport check (FSX) which brings up the Choose Addon dialogue box. Then highlight *Addon Scenery to activate the List radio button.
Click the List(Selected) Radio Button then click the Add Single Folder button and then I have to navigate to every addon scenery folder in turn (quite a long process). If I select with the tree structure then it ignores the addons (well, most of them anyway).

Its like it is not remembering the selection using the directory tree method, even though it show all the files I want to select.

The other little point is, I ticked the "Save As Default Search" box and went back into Choose Addon dialogue and my search had not been saved. So it I ever want to redo my airports then I have to go through this process of selecting each and every scenery folder all over again.

Apart from that it seems to work :-)

Thanks

These don't sound like "wee bugs".

1. What is it you entered/changed in the Aircraft Editor?

2. What do you mean by "getting your airports to update"

3. the default search path is saved only for the currently-selected Target Version. Did you have FSX selected as your Target Version?

Re Collect Airports, you seem to be making an easy task difficult. Leave the "Directory Tree" radio button checked, then check flightsim\Addon Scenery. That will open and check every folder in Addon Scenery. Of course, if you want to collects more or fewer add-ons, than you've got to be selective. What is it that forces you to do it the way you are?

1. I changed the Wingspan and Cruise speed.
2. Its my old chestnut of my addon airports not showing up when I do a Find/Collect Airports
3. Yes, I had FSX selected, haven't even tried with P3Dv2 yet.
4. I know its seems a very difficult way but it does not work unless I do it my way. e.g. I have a new (completely new, not an edit) of Glasgow Heliport and it will not pick up in the list after the airports are collected if I use the method that you suggested (which I tried every which conceivable way to get to work). I know, it makes no sense and it should work as it shows the actual bgl files and I can tick them but it does not read the info unless I do it the way I described.

1. I changed the Wingspan and Cruise speed.
I've confirmed that attempting to change wingspan causes the error.
3. Yes, I had FSX selected, haven't even tried with P3Dv2 yet.
Please install the latest development release before attempting to Collect airports for P3D. (Error discovered by another user yesterday.)

The way you specify the airports to be collected should make no difference when it comes time to do the actual collection - presuming the airport's file has the characteristics expected by AIFP. Why don't you send me one of the airports AIFP refuses to collect and I'll see why.

Re the error message when trying to update wingspan and model radius, unless the "wing_span" entry was missing from your aircraft.cfg file, I think you'll find that the underlying problem was that the specified Model folder does not exist. AIFP was somewhat less than specific about missing Model folders. I've now fixed that and the fix will be in the next development release - probably tomorrow.

I await your airport file.

HI

Was going to respond yesterday but I got my new gadget so all plans were put on hold :)

I'll try 18(e) today and let you know how I get on.

Pretty sure the Model folders are there as its a flyable model but it might have multiple model folders for different configurations.

I'll send you my Glasgow Heliport one. It does pick up, but not with multiple selections. (Please don't give it away). Like the others. Actually, let me try 18(e) first and see what that does.

Hi

I tried 18(f) and when I scan for all airports the way you described above, all airports are now found!!! Thanks for fixing this for me. I'm not going mad after all :)

Glad it's now working. That was a "Day 1" problem. But, you had to have selected two subfolders of the same folder (e.g., FSX\Addon Scenery and FSX\ORBX) for it to "show". That's something I never did, since all my add-ons are in Addon Scenery.

I did find something else last night ....

If I use a UI aircraft in a flight plan (serveral helos on mine) the following happens.

I load a flightplan from the .txt file, the Aircraft --> Open Aircraft Editor, I get an Aircrafts Model folder not found dialogue. I press Ok to that then the Aircraft Editor box come up. If I select "By Path", the warning box comes up again before the select aircraft folder path box displays. I select my a/c then click use selected and it find the details. But going to Aircraft --> Open Aircraft Editor has the same problem again.
And, if I go Aircraft --> Open Aircraft Editor, Click By title, the warning box appears, I click ok, click by title etc again, then the a/c title to edit box comes up, I select the a/c and "Use Selected", then all the details appear.

It seems to not be finding the model folder until I tell it where it is, possibly because its a UI model I'm using and not a native AI one.

UI model or not, it still needs a model folder.

Please send me the aircraft folder containing the problem aircraft. I don't need the textures.

Don

Without the aircraft.cfg file and the Model folder, there's not much I can do. Does the model folder contain a model.cfg file that "points" to the .mdl file? Presumably, this happens only with a particular aircraft - so we know it is an aircraft problem and not a general configuration issue. Payware aircraft have been known to "push the limits". Perhaps that's the case here.

Don

I think I fixed it.

I had used AITM to modify the mdl (don't ask me what for I just found the backup file in the model folder). I reverted back to the original mdl and the problem no longer happens. Sorry for the erroneous bug report.
