• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi,
I've been working on a fighter plane add-on for flight simulator 2004 and X and ive been having troubles converting it. I've looked around and tried following directions those places provided but all that end up doing was corrupting my Gmax program and causing me to re-install. If anyone could help walk me through the process of converting please pm or if anyone would like the file itself just pm or reply in here and i can send it to you and you can play with it or whatnot.

From posts in other forums, I think his problem extends to creating the various folders and files, flight dynamics, etc etc.

that too, but i want to convert it to .3ds so that i can use it in 3ds max because theres no defalt way to open it with 3ds from gmax format. any help would be greatful.

I've spent a lot of time over the past week trying to do the same thing and gave up. The way everyone seems to suggest is get the Quake "Tempest" Gmax gamepack from TurboSquid and export as MD3, then get an MD3 importer for 3DsMax. Trouble is although lots of places mention one, all the links I've found don't work. I'm wondering if Autodesk have insisted people remove it for IP or licencing reasons.

I've tried every way I know of, including PolyTrans to convert that GMax model to some format that could be Imported to Max.

There are simply too many "geometry problems" with the GMax model that need to solved before any conversion will be possible.

For example, on the leading edge of the horizontal stabilators, there is some form of scaling issue that causes them to be offset far forward (actually, past the nose of the a/c!).

There are also many, many unwelded, colocated and colinear vertices that cause severe mesh distortion when exported from GMax as an .MD3 file.

Well, let this screenshot say the rest...

thanks for trying. I see everything got warped but it look like it could be rearranged to the orginal. If possible do you think you could attach it so i can download it and play with it and try to reform it.
ty in advance
.

maybe theyll work on a new method since gmax is still attached on fsx.

ive been working with the original model. tried fixing that geometry problem by cutting the plane in half and cloning it, just in case it was the connects. so now the part are seperate. having problem getting the program deep exploration which is all i need but i understand the gmax function. Hopefully it will be finished soon and ill be able to take a format and make 2d blueprint. PRecision accuracy.
