• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Import issues

I have only recently started playing about with MdlConvx, very impressed with its features. I have had some success with converting files for use in FSX but importing FS2004 or CFS2 mdl files seldom works, even mdl files produced by myself using FSDS . Is this a known limitation or am I just being stupid and not using the tool's features properly?
My main interest is trying to convert ships from FS2004 and CFS2 and some AI aircraft.

Any advice will be most welcome

Cheers
Dave

Can you see them in MCX ?, some kind of error report ?, usually Fs2004 can be converted, about CfS2 I just tried one object and failed.

Hi,

Which version are you using?

In general it should be possible to import cfs2 and fs2004 objects. If you get any errors on import just let me know and I can probably fix the bug.

Thanks for the quick response. Just to add to what I have found so far:
Using version 1.3.0.0
FSX mdl and bgl files import ok
FS2004 and CFs2 bgl files import ok

A few screenshots attached, I hope, of event logs:

grab2 - FS9 aircraft mdl (my own from FSDS), did not import
grab3 - FS9 aircraft mdl (my own from FSDS), did not import
grab4 - CFS2 ship mdl, this imported ok
grab5 - CFS2 ship mdl, did not import
grab6 - CFS2 aircraft mdl, did not import
grab7 - FSX AI aircraft mdl, did not import

Hi Dave,

You might want to try the latest development release, many bugs have been fixed since version 1.3:

http://www.scenerydesign.org/development-releases/

If objects still fail in the development release, please send me a sample object and I'll have a look.

Hi Arno,

Thanks for the tip. The development version works much better:). Most of the files I tried previously now import ok. The features available in the tool are fantastic if only I can figure out how to use them!
One thing I did find was a file would not import if it was in a different drive from MdlConv.
There are a couple of files that I have been unable to import. I will send you a copy.

Many thanks
Dave
